Stoke's a few towns joined together. Stoke, hanley duck & 3 more. Even locals recognise that. Your crowd comparison was silly,. There crowds immediately before joining the PL were half their PL crowds. I'm allowed to hate Stoke so I do, it's a **** hole filled with **** people, they have a **** club with **** fans. Petrols cheap though, although it's four star.
I think Kempton was open that season. And, even if it wasn't why would that affect attendances? It only held 1,800 and the ground held about 12,000 then. Unless you think the fans who went in there wouldn't stand elsewhere? Which, considering they were some of the most dedicated fans is a bit silly. As for attendances pick another season around that date and my point still stands. You want to be a sports journalist, don't you? Always a good idea to have information before weiting something so as to avoid being pulled up,so here is a link to City's average attendances through the years. Which are not impressive in all honesty. Even in 1970/1971, my favourite season as a fan when we looked as though we were going to make it to the First Division for a long time and reached the 6th round of the cup, we averaged less than 20,000. (Incidentally we are told this is a rugby mad city but the top average for one of the rugby clubs is fhe 14,000 FC had about 4 or 5 seasons back). Anyway, here is the link- http://european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/hulc.htm Also, for comparison here, here is Stoke's. http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/stkc.htm Of course over theyeqrs it is better than ours as they have spent more time in the top flight (in other words a bigger and more successful club than ourselves). But it is useful to look at because, as I said it is useful to have the correct information so you can put people right when they make incorrect statements. As did Chesire Ben when he said they averaged 13,000 and something before their promotion to the PL. It was nearer 17,000 so he was talking bollocks. So, far from him being correct in his assertions there wasn't that much difference between what we were averaging and what they were prior to promotion.
I didn't say that, I said there were 13400 at our game with them in 2006, & as an extra in 2008 (new years day) there were 15000. Both games City had a decent following. Also my assertion was that their attendances more than doubled when the entered the PL. At no point did I compare their crowds with ours, their fans to ours or their plastics to ours - you did that. The plastics around here quite openly have second teams, make of it what you will, misinterpret what I said but I'm right either way. It's a **** hole of a City & Club. Inhabited by & supported by **** houses.
16,823 average the season before they went up. 27,020 the first season up. That is not more than twice as many. You can't pick one game out and compare it to an average in a division higher, you have to compare like with like.
