I think Mert may be our best CB. He's definitely settled in now, and making all the doubters who said "he's too slow for the PL" look stupid.
One area of Gervinhos game was outstanding. His getting and holding the ball when we cleared from defence. There were a few times he was outnumbered at least 3 to 1 but still kept it and turned it into an attack. To say he had a shocker is very, very harsh. Overall I am very happy with todays performance and going to the defending champions and getting a point is a good result.
And I also had to give credit to the ref: Mike Dean. He did a great job letting the game flow... but after the officiating at Anfield this afternoon, it's not really hard to shine.
What i like about our current squad is the depth - we have no set starting 11 yet and it seems we have playes who we can slot it depending on the opposition which we have not had before.
Jenkinson our best player. And to think people were calling for Yennaris at RB at the start of the season. Madness!
Laurent Koscielny, yet to play 90 minutes this season, makes his return, away, to reigning league champions, Manchester City. He leaves the pitch as the best player on the field.
not a bad result . Good determined comeback , so many time last season we saw the heads go down when we were behind. Now we seem to have the BELIEF in ourselves that we can get back in the match . THAT is the real positive i take from this match. Great performance from the midfield. Good strong performance from the defence. Need a bit more " pull the trigger " attitude at the front. SPEED SPEED SPEED ! Happy with a point away at Etihad .
I disagree. I think Man City played him very well by putting players on him, but when he did find room he really struggled to connect with the ball well. To be fair, I really really rate Gervinho this season, so maybe I'm expecting too much from him.
What about his panicked attempted clearance that should have gifted Aguero a goal? Also it looked like Lescott scored from his "zone" of the 6 yard box. Not to mention Merte was better.
Well happy with that result team showing some back bone! Can't help thinking we maybe should have won it
He did alright and I think this will be his breakthrough season. He should have scored, but a point at City at the Ethiad is fantastic. Bring on the Chavs and Coventry.
I don't want to mention this but if we had RVP, we could've nicked that 3-1. I know Giroud is not going to be another RVP and I accept that, but it's so frustrating that now we have a solid back four and a dynamic midfield with great wingers, we are now back at square one when it comes to a CF. I know Giroud didn't have much time to make an impact but still. Anyways, I'm confident about beating Chelsea this coming weekend. They haven't really impressed me this season. Apart from Hazard, Oscar and Moses... I don't feel any of their other players pose the same threat. I expect 2-0 at the Emirates.
Things like that happen to the best of defenders all the time, as it did today with Koscielny, I refuse to put the blame of our conceded goal on Koscielny, Mannone and Podolski made it incredibly difficult for him to do anything.
I think realistically this is a great result even though we were the better team by a margin. Podolski has played way too deep today IMO, not up to his standard. He seemed a bit confused at times what his role is. Overall though the team played well. Giroud made some really good one touch link-ups when he came on, and he actually made sense as a sub, while Walcott... came off as even more clueless than usual... wrong decisions and horrible crosses in really good positions.
I thought Merts was our best defender. Made countless interceptions. Jenkinson played well too and as always Santi Carzorla was ****ing fantastic. We have Sagna and Wilshere still to come back and the team is looking strong. What a difference a year makes.
