Butland is brilliant, Stones could be great, Luke Shaw pre-leg break was looking incredible, Dier is a good player, Alli, Kane, Rashford, Lingard, then we have hyped players like Loftus Cheek, Dominic Solanke, Reece Oxford, Onomah from Spurs.

Players like Rashford come out of nowhere for the rest of England, only hard core United fans will have been aware of his talent. The next one will be along soon enough, maybe the lad from Leeds.

Either way, the team will need balance of experience and youth, managed by somebody who'll get em playing as a unit with a purpose.

Their is at least one downside to Managing England.

    THE PRESS.

They are all over the England Manager, like a rash.
Any skeletons in the cupboard, and they'll print them.
Misbehave, in any way, and you will move quickly from the Back Pages to the Front Pages of the Daily Sh1t- Stirrer.
Think Sven and Ulrika just as an example.
Or just forget that you are under scrutiny, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Make a non-PC throw-away comment or just do something silly and you get pilloried like McLaren, Hoddle, Taylor, or Venables.

Now if Sam is, always has been and always will be, an Angel, then he should have no problem with this.

But it's not the sort of scrutiny that I'd be comfortable with, and, (sadly), I have nothing to hide.

Players like Stones and Kane are among the ones that I think are overrated. That's my opinion of course, but I don't think they're as good as the players that were available in those positions 5 to 10 years ago. Butland is a good keeper but I'm not sure he's any better than Hart and Hart isn't as good as say Seaman. Admittedly, I have seen too little of the other players you've mentioned to have formed an opinion yet, other than Oxford who might turn out to be a good player. Overall though, I genuinely think the quality of English players, on the whole, has decreased over the last 10-15 years. And there certainly seem to be fewer strong characters in the English game.

I can agree with most of that mate, but it's about getting somebody in who can get the players playing as a group, rather than on their individual merits. Kane for me is a top striker, he went missing in the Euros but he's got time to work on that side of his game, two years, during that time he should have two seasons of CL football under his belt, the bigger stage.

Stones, well, there's something there, but yes, vastly over rated for now.

I believe Butland is a lot better than Hart, but nowhere near the likes of Neuer, De Gea, Lloris or older greats, sure.

I'm interested to see how he gets on, if he gets the job, I think he'll do better than Hodgson because, let's be honest, it'd be hard not to.

Well, maybe not hot, luke warm... still, back in 2004 or whenever Sven was having a slice she'd have been a bit warmer.

Possibly but playing in correct position and fitness levels are other large factors together with tactics - all were poorly addressed in my opinion
