How does that work? His start at Watford was mediocre at best (although he was fantastic towards the end). His start at Reading made his start at Watford look good.
OK - I misread you too then Andy. I hope Malky makes a step up to the next level next year - no reason why he should not - this has been a good season for him and I think most of us appreciate what he has done and what he is trying to do.
He will as long as He is the manager and GT is chairman I am happy , just wish we could have another SEJ as well! but as the song goes 2 out of 3 aint bad!
If we could keep GT, SEJ and MM for the next five years - only selling when we have to - and allowing for the fact that with the Academy starting to produce a flow of "cheap" youngsters we should be broadly at break even - then we could have avery bright future
I think what some are forgetting is that BR had a much better and more experienced team than Malky has ever done at Watford. Had we (and Malky) been able to keep Williamson, O'Toole, Smith, McAnuff and Priskin in the 09-10 season we would have done better than 13th. Malky has never had as good a squad as Brendan has in 6 months with us!
Very true chris - we did have some good players back then - and to be fair to BR he got the best out of them - and in the case of MacAnuff and Proskin - got us better sell on fees than we might have feared .... and in case I have not already done so Welcome to not606 - it is good to see you coe over to the Dark Side
Leo, where in the league do you think we would have finished ,If BR was still the gaffer, last season and this? I reckon we would have gone down last season! and prob would be involved in L1 play offs this season!
Difficult to say as I think he would have been more demanding over player transfers - I think last year he would have got us a top half - building on his previous season but not better due to the loss of players. This year I think we would have had a similar season - perhaps not tailingoff quite as much at the end as I thik he would have demanded we got in loanees in January. Difficult question to answer really - but I think he would not have been as "compliant" as Malky. However Malky is a Watford" man andis prepared to struggle for the good of the club.. I think BR would have been less cooperative with the Board.
I dont think its a case of being compliant ,more about thats whats on the table take it or we will find someone else! Br ran away MM had the balls to stay and fight! Interesting to see you think BR would have done a better job than MM !
I am not sure that whatever he demanded he would have got. Unless he could point the board at someone that they could get in for next to nothing, the tale would have been that we don't have any money. The fact that we needed extra cash just to get through to the end of the season shows up how broke we really were, or are.
I think BR is just a little further along the path than Malky. So did the Board that appointed him in place of Malky.
If he is then its only a matter of weeks!! Like I have alluded to it depends whether he has his mobile topped up
"Jose How do I.............?,Who would you suggest..........?, I think I prefer tea ,but should i drink coffee? Jose.. Jose.. are you still there?
When we appointed Malky I was disappointed in a way as it was clear he was given the job because he was cheap and he would accept the transfer situation - i.e many out few in. He was still pretty raw and we did not try for someone experienced. Now though I am pleased we did appoint him as those who might on paper have been better woud almost certainly not have been able to manage the small young and inexperienced squad we have. Malky has done incredibly well
