Al Habsi too, the point is though a manager quite often won't do the initial scouting of players. For instance I believe our current set up to be along the lines of Pardew tell MA & DL he needs a CB for exmaple, Carr goes off and does his thing, presents a list of say 3-5 affordable CB's to the manager, the manager then has his say out of that list.

Point is when you are spending no more than four million on players your more likely to get more wrong than right when you don't have a "Graham Carr" in your scouting ranks.

    Al Habsi is shocking!!!

And to be honest, the last point seem way out... If you can only muster a small amount, it HAS to be on quality for money! You can't afford to get it wrong.

Valencia was Bruce but it was Wenger really. He had scouted him and Figueroa but decided they didn't need them and recommended them to Bruce.

Was just kidding mate, done alright given budgets and Wigan being the home of egg chasers

    Did Pardew buy Williamson?

Also, I think it proves a point somewhat that our scouts are liable to a howler themselves, so Martinez + them isn't likely to yield anything better than present in the windows. Is sacking Pardew, signing Martinez under the current pressure, and then giving him 5-8 games to turn our style around really such a terrific idea at the moment? I can't see that it's the logical decision.

Fair shout on the Williamson signing.

It depends on where you stand to be honest, I accept that results wise over the whole of his tenure that Pardew doesn't deserve the sack, however I have very little faith in him. Our football is equivalent to what Fat Sam had us playing, that can't be denied. I'd give Martinez more time than I'd give Pardew because I have belief in his ability as manager.

As I said in an earlier thread, he continually plays an attractive style of football and does not alter this no matter how low Wigan slip down the table. If he can produce that type of football with Wigan, imagine what he could do with Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Ba, Colo etc.

He's also a bold attacking manager, like his switch to 3-4-3 last season which is more or less the soul reason Wigan stayed up. Other teams couldn't figure how to operate against such a fluent, cohesive style of play, they'd out number teams in midfield, but keep plenty of width meaning they still had a very good attacking threat. Could you ever imagine Pardew being creative enough to go three at the back if were chasing a game? I can't.

As I've said, based on results over the duration of his whole reign he deserves time, but when you have little faith in his ability (as I do) it's hard to allow him time.

Faith is granted in the absence of proof, yet Pardew has a remarkable record that constitutes such proof, and the sample of poorness is in comparison so slight that it's a bit unfair to really deny him your faith I feel. Faith in Robbie is exactly the definition of faith though, because he's never been at the sharp end, only the bottom. Wigan are seen as relegation certainties every year, there's no pressure on the man, especially from above. Newcastle would be totally different, and nobdoy can know how that would affect his decision making. But we shall see, I am willing to put my appendage on the line and say if we do sack Pardew, Martinez won't be the new arrival <ok>

No point in getting bogged down with managers and bad signings! Name me a manager I'll give you a **** signing they have made at some stage. Bobby signed Fumaca for example.

Overall our transfer business has been very good since Carr came in. As JPF says every club/manager/scout makes mistakes. He just got done up like a kipper by Fergie on Obertan!

"Hey Alan, I've got a lad who could be the next Ronaldo but needs games to develop. We're playing so well I can't give him it here and with me liking you and Newcastle so much, I thought you might like this little bonus. You can buy me a nice bottle of red next time I'm up. Meet Gabriel, Gabriel meet Alan"

Gabriel smiles like Forrest Gump, slavering all over the place. Fergie quickly ushers him away.

"What do you reckon? 3m?" Fergie says sounding a little desperate.

"Sounds interesting but why is his head so much bigger than a normal, and is that a moon circling around him?" Pardew queries.

Fergie smoothly skirts round the queries and quickly sets up a 60m race between the rabid Obertan, Nani and Hernandez.

"See what I mean Alan" Fergie drunkingly slurs doing his best Taggart impression

"Wow you've got yourself a deal" Pardew glowingly replies blown away by his electric burst

Lets not get bogged down in the detail. It'll only end up in a he said she said moment. I haven't got time to keep getting into a dress.
