If they really are sacking Paolo, then it can't be because of the last three games, it must be because of the first six. And if you're sacking a manager after nine games (let alone six) it shows you got the decision wrong, and wasted a pre-season. If you are getting the decision about hiring the manager wrong so many times, then it requires some inward reflection and a change of process higher up the club. I don't mean Pozzo out, but I mean Pozzo think differently and take different advice.
I thought things had changed with Cleverly because he was given a season. I actually thought letting him go was fine, he started to look like he couldn't figure out how to get us performing again, and the new guy would get at least to the winter transfer window (unless it went disastrously wrong Sheffield United style). But then if you start chopping and changing managers again, that becomes a problem in and of itself.
Why should players listen to the manager, or care what he says? Why should good players or coaches want to join us? How do you develop young talent to sell on for a profit if they don't have managers to learn from and mentor them? How do supporters build a connection with the team? And, ultimately, how can any manager build anything sustainable when they have to be totally pragmatic and try to win any way possible from day one? I don't know if Paolo is the right guy for the rest of this season (let along the longer term), but I don't think sacking another manager so quickly helps the long-term future.
