The January transfer window was the first time that Big Sam had a chance to put his own mark on the side, and he done a cracking job in my opinion. However, despite me absolutely detesting Leicester City, I have to say that it would have been a travesty had any other manager but theirs got the manager of the year award..
Even though you hate Leicester, do you still sort of like Ranieri? I can't believe anybody could hate that guy, he's a model professional.
Was it Clueless? She always does that the useless ****. Only thing she's good for is emptying your balls.
Statistics can be used to show anything. In the few games that he was in charge last season, Dick Advocaat achieved 1.333 points per game. This saved us from relegation and he did it without a transfer window to bring new players in. If he's achieved that this season we would have earned enough points to finish 11th, but he didn't- we were rubbish. So, in reality Allardyce's 1.44 points per game means nothing. Its better than Advocaat admittedly but its no indicator that he'll achieve that next season. As for Ranieri, he took inspiration from the football traditions of his homeland and used a tactical approach that took an entire league by surprise. He deserves much more credit than Pearson who struggled for a season and then got lucky at the end. In my opinion.
Allardyce's stats don't mean nothing, they may mean nothing but you can't say that definitively. If you choose to have an entirely negative outlook on Sam and next season based on past disappointments that's up to you.
The notable difference between Allardyce and Advocaat is that Allardyce immediately started to dispose of players who were useless/disruptive. I think for next season, you're certainly gonna have a more 'focused' group.
This is true. He has been aided by circumstances, such as the expiration of contracts, so that favourable deals to get rid of those players have been possible. One or two other things have helped this along away! All in all a lot of things appear to be coming together at the right time and this is why I think he stands a better chance of being successful than many of his recent predecessors. Unlike clubs like Swansea or even Stoke, SAFC doesn't appear (to me at least) to have established a firm culture into which a manager can walk and immediately take up the reigns. The faffing about over the DoF is symptomatic of this. They appear to be getting over this and hopefully the appointment the Chief Exec will complete this transformation. I don't think any of the previous managers have been particularly terrible but a variety of circumstances have conspired against them. Even di Canio was a victim of circumstance to some extent and, although many of his problems were of his own making, casting him as a madman is only seeing part of the picture.
I think previous managers have just been poor in the scrap, the new manager effect carried you over the line a few times but organisationally, those guys were in too deep at a club with deep-rooted issues. Allardyce specialises in kicking arse and putting out fires, he's no nonsense. To me it looks like your owner has finally accepted the situation you are in and that there's no way to jump from 17th to 5th in one season, by employing a 'pass and move master'. Better days will come, if you back Sam Allardyce, he's proven it time and time again, it just depends on how much slack Ellis Short can give out.
i thought you'd just finished your third bottle of whiskey, but noticed the spelling is too good. since when is winning the league a routine task?
This thread has got to be a joke? If finishing furthest down the league is the hallmark of achievement then McLaren should be in with a shout but needs to be behind Remi Garde in the line. Ranieri had the easiest job as the squad he had meant the league was handed to him on a plate... so i assume you placed big money on those very long odds?
I think you have missed the point. Under Pearson Leics were not a bad team, just poor defensively, that was sorted by Pearson and they became the form team of the second half of the season. A couple of additions by Pearson and back room staff enhanced the team, Pearson sacked for a non-footballing incident and Ranieri appointed sight unseen. We know how the season panned out and good for Leics, but my comparison to Sam was Ranieri took over a going concern whereas we were on the skids. In terms of managerial achievement, if that is what the award is about, then for me Sam showed more savvy and ability than any other. Got it now?
No problem Bill and I have had my say along with everybody else. Non-issue now but Haslam is not normally a WUM, so just assuming he needed guidance. It's always free from me!
I don't think you'll find anyone on this board/forum that agrees with you. Sam has done a good job, no doubt about it. But technically he's done the same as managers previous (Di Canio, Poyet, Advocaat). We'll never see something similar to Ranieri & Leicester for a long long time. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I think you're talking bollocks.
Apologies, didn't realise the matter was over after they had both had their say. Won't bother in future
