Is it just me or since GJ, has our board had a tendancy to go for the more softly spoken less abrasive approach to management Coppout, Millen, Mcinnes and now SOD, there is a clear pattern in the nature of the man they have chosen to appoint. Maybe it is here where the board is failing.

Me personally, I think footballers quite often need a good kick up the backside and the odd teacup thrown in their direction if the effort and performance is not up to the standard required, but as I say I think GJ scared our board away from appointing that style of manager, and to my mind it cost us, as Billy Davies would have been my pick ahead of both Del and SOD, as love him or loath him, he gets results! Yes he wants to spend money, show me a manager who doesn't, but I will guarentee he would not have allowed the meek surrender our players showed to lose our Championship status.
 
Many trains of thought on that one supcon. History has told us that both types of personality can achieve great things and I think it depends on the overall aura of the club that dictates what should work best for them in their current state of mind.

Maybe, just maybe, that is where we have gone so wrong.
 
I believe it is about the players respecting the manager and you dont need to shout to have the players respect. It is more about psychology, SOD should be able to make the players scarred for their places and futures without shouting at them, thats our job from the terraces lol.
 
From what I've heard the players know exactly what they need to do (remember Kilkenny being hauled off before halftime) - you don't need to shout
 
For starters, we have absolutely no idea what any of our previous managers were like in the dressing room. For all we know, Millen would scream and shout at players. All we have to go on is speculation based on their character, and that is complete bollocks at the best of times. Let's not pretend that we know what they are like as people.

I couldn't give a **** if our manager wore a dress to every game, or spoke Chinese to the press. All I want is a proven manager that will succeed if given the time.
 
I think it is just the modern era of football now. You look back and all those successful managers wouldnt take any crap and would say it how it was. Those shots of Clough punching a fan who ran on to the pitch, could you imagine a manager doing that now?

It seems the modern manager is soft, that they wrap their players up in cotton wool, tell them its ok, How many times recently has SOD said that the players played well even though we lost. Your not allowed to say anything negative now as it might hurt the players feelings and destroy them mentally. thats why its rare when managers like Di Canio comes out and will blame a player to the media

But I think some of it goes back further when at schools they have football games where they dont keep scores so there are no winners or losers. What does that teach children?

We all want a proven manager, or even one that can win a game occasionally but I'm curious as to whether you would allow that timespan to include relegation to the 4th division ?

A good question!! At this point I could not honestly answer that. I do know that the club had to change, and there was bound to be some short-term pain during the transistion process.
 
We are well used to pain following City :laugh:

My point is that we know we need the team to gel and adapt and that it takes a little time, but that the club can't be allowed to be relegated this season because of it. If we go down that really would be catastrophic.

I'm not anti SOD at all, and believe me I want him and the team to succeed asap, but to me we are underperforming weekly and are still going backwards in most areas, and the manager is not helping the situation with some of his frankly bizarre statements.

A league win will put it right, but for the next two or three games I'm struggling to see where we'll get one. Last night in anyone's book should have been a home banker, but we're clearly not up to the task yet. That's why I think we will lose at Swindon and fail to beat Colchester.
