United winning at home This is the LVG way now. No doubt about the win. Those who expect 4-0 or 4-1 wins will be disappointed. But this is the new United that fans and pundits need to get used to. I am really happy with our attacking players: mata, Depay and especially Martial. With them on the pitch we will always score goals. Bring on arsenal! I'd be disappointed if we don't get three points there.
I like that we've learned to come from behind. A year ago this game would have been lost after the 4th minute as when we conceded first, we more often than not, lost. This is becoming quite common too. Good win, almost lost it those last 20 but overall, happy. Manchester doing its bit from England in Europe.
Good result, mixed performance and some odd managerial decisions. Valencia is not a right back, that's been obvious since the experiment started. The player most needed in the last 15 was Bastian but he'd been benched. Taking him off and moving Blind to DCM resulted in panic. Why?! Rooney was **** again. Depay was OK but he needs to be more disciplined. On the upside, with a bit of pace around him Mata is proving to be the wizard we all know he can be. And Martial continues to look the real deal. He gives defenders the ****s! Also, take a bow Chris Smalling. Many doubted you, me included, some slated you but you're now the best centre half England have. Stay injury free!
I completely wrote Smalling off at the start of last year in the firm belief that if he had shown no improvement in 3 years he never would, six months later I was more than happy to admit I was wrong. Mata, Martial and Memphis are looking excellent, Memphis just needs someone with him (Shaw) who can read his flicks/passes, he also tends to be too eager to impress, this should get better as he settles.
I hope now people can understand a bit more why he insists on possession. I like many of us was very frustrated that we kept giving the ball away once we were in the lead. We just needed to pass the ball better and waves after waves of attack came. If you keep the ball, they cannot attack and cannot score . LVG was angry and said we had to improve if we were to go further in the competition. Absolutely right.
