Some of their teams haven`t played yet either, though in fairness they should do better than we did today
Swans fan - not here to gloat. But thanks for the points, only another 37 and we'll be happy - many Swans fans expected a cricket score given pre-season results. While you surely can only get better, LvG is going to have to work miracles to move you into Champions' League contention.
Not really surprised by todays result, you haven`t turned bad overnight and we haven`t become world beaters in the same time. There will be many similar results for all teams as the season goes on (as last year), the premiership is closer than most leagues from top to bottom
Not wumming as we have a game tomorrow so I may come back after that game. Seriously though I don't think it's the world class players that you need it's the good players that fit around them. You shouldn't have bought Shaw for example as you could have used that money on 2 - 3 players. Would..... Sagna Moreno Rodwell Sigurdsson Michu have improved your squad for reasonable transfer fees? Lots of maybes there but imo that's what you need, good players for a reasonable price.
Sagna, yes in a 4-4-2, the others, not significantly, but i see where you are coming from just the wrong choice of players
Every person would pick different players but like you say there's a point and unless the people in charge of transfers at your club get it, then it could be a long season. Then again it's just one game and perhaps some of these youngsters will prove their worth.
Or maybe the 8 first team sqaud players missing today will make a difference ? Van Persie, Welbeck, Carrick, Raphael, Valencia, Shaw, Cleverley, Evans
Will they make a difference? Van Persie - Yes Welbeck - Maybe Carrick - Maybe Raphael - Maybe Valencia - No Shaw - No Cleverley - Hell No Evans - Maybe...ish
Will they make a difference? Van Persie - Yes Welbeck - Yes Carrick - Probably Raphael - Maybe Valencia - Maybe Shaw - Maybe Cleverley - Probably not Evans - Yes. He is the best CB Utd has. Not sure why Welbeck gets the stick he does. If he played through the middle and played more often, he could easily be a 20 goal a season striker. I think he got 6 in 8 (not sure of numbers) while RVP was out last season.
Problem is in the last couple of seasons SAF was in charge he didn't really sign anyone, the reason being that supposedly he was holding off so that the next manager could create his own team. Meanwhile every other team at the top of the PL have been Strengthening every season. Utd really needed so midfield reinforcement in that time but no one was bought in. Last season with Moyes midfield was still the problem he bought in Felani and Mata totally the wrong type of players and overpriced, Manu need a midfield talasman Schneider would have been good a few years ago, Pogba would be perfect now. Combined with that Utds Defensive nosedived last year with Vidic, Rio and Evra all reaching their sell by date. For as long as I've known Utds defence has always been one of the best in the PL and now it's mid table. Now after 4-5 years of underinvestment Utd are at real crisis point having a poor midfield and defence and no pull for the big players other than overpaying. A few decent players as you have mentioned May have worked if they had been gap fillers over the last 4 years, but now I wouldn't see those type of players making the impact needed. They need to spend and spend big especially in defence!
Wow a new manager and we are still setting records. First home opening loss of the season since 1972! That's a corker and first ever league loss to Swansea! It's all shaping up to be another season to remember!
Yes. After Dyer got sent off for stealing Van Gaal's wallet it was all downhill for them. Special mention to Paul Parker in an unfamiliar wing-back role.
Hahaha I do love the head in sand mentality. If you watched the game yesterday then you will know that United are a shambles team with no heart. That left with Fergie. Never seen such a passionless squad of players paid so much to represent United. Long May this jokefest continue.
When I said in January 2014 (last season) that we needed to have a total revamp of the squad and spend an unprecedented amount of money just to maintain our top level status, some here said I was exagerating. How difficult can it be to replace one person? well it is f**ing difficult when that person has been United (body and soul and mind) for more than 25 years! The GGs (=greedy Glazers for the non aficionados of this board) have since their grabbing of this club made it very difficult to buy top players. I dont buy this story about Fergie not wanting to buy expensive players bid by Chelsea and City and getting the players who HE wanted. Years of underinvestment masked by Fergie's ability has now come home to roost. If f**ing Woodward does not get off his backside and do something drastic this window (like grabbing good players from other premiership sides if targets are not available) I can see a period of slow decline and uncertainty. Teams will be coming to OT and expect to get at least a point if not three. This is not being overdramatic and after a loss. I have been saying this since Fergie left, when Moyes was appointed and when he was sacked, even after the so called good preseason with LVG when others here have decalred we have turned the corner and that we are now going for the title. What a joke. We will be lucky not to spending time in the bottom half of the table. The GGs have to open their eyes and if they want to preserve their investment (whatever is left after they've plundered £500m) then they'd better put some of that money back into the club.
Good post Christian I for one know you've been saying all this, since Jan 2014. I totally agree, and to be fair it's very good assessmnet of what needs to happen.
