The disappointment of coming away with nothing from yesterday is easing slowly but I, like so many others am so proud of that performance. It’s been really interesting reading everybody’s comments on the goals, the refs and individual players performances. Having watched the whole game it is so good to come away from it thinking that there was not one player that didn’t put in a good performance or didn’t leave anything out on the pitch. On reflection it was also so good to be even discussing whether Bertrand should have got two penalties when Saints are playing at Old Trafford and getting those opportunities. Bertrand and Redmond link up so well down the left and it is so encouraging to know that we will have that going into the last leg of the season (fitness permitting). Oh and is it just me that finds it infuriating watching any game that Ashley Young plays in, regardless of whether it’s against Saints where he continually fouls the opposition or tugs on their shirts? Oh and then dares to argue the toss when and if it rarely gets seen in the first place!
I actually thought there was one if Redmond went down after being clipped by Young as well, but he stayed on his feet to shoot.
Totally agree about Young gets away with murder. You wait til next week, was watching Spurs yesterday and Danny Rose was continually pretending he was fouled, rolling around,up in the air, trying to fly the lot.He thinks he's a fairground ride.Just watch him unbelievable!
Not really. There's also been no real change to the balance between home/away penalties, so if being at home influences the referee, VAR isn't undoing that.
I completely agree. At one point after the ‘red card’ challenge yesterday Rose was writhing around like a fish out of water and somehow ended up rolling/wriggling to the feet of an Arsenal player...Pathetic
I did not see that but if as you say that’s being actively promoted, then shame on those commentators. It’s this ‘get what you can when you can’, no matter what is destroying a whole chunk of our way of life. Makes life difficult for parents trying to imbue decent values of fairness into their offspring. It’s a tough enough job anyway!!
yeah watch that game and he was border line mental. Agree about young also, cannot stand to watch the twat," hey look at me I am playing for united, I am special and never foul anyone and if I go down, it is because I was pole axed and the offender needs a yellow card at a minimum". Also what to mention that there is Big Team bias is this league, if Mane or {insert any top six teams player} went down to both those challengers on Ryan, Liverpool would have gotten both calls, as soon as the first one was not given I knew we were not getting anything from the ref, the only call I was shocked we got was the free kick that JWP scored from. When I played the game, I did not fall down on contact but if someone was pulling my shirt shirt and leaning into me, then gravity usually took over. I do not believe Ryan tried to look for a penalty, the contact forced him to the ground. Very pleased with our play, but we do not have the players at the moment to withstand the onslaught from bigger teams when leading and that has to be rectified in the off season and then we can be competitive again, like we were two years ago.
Exactly. I find it funny that, on the one hand fans complain about players diving and the game going soft, then on the other, go and blare on about the penalty claims such as yesterday's being "stonewall". Defenders have a physical job and if we are gonna give a penalty every time they brush against an attacking player, the game will go to ****. In an ideal world it should be damn tough to earn a penalty. Only for clear goal scoring opportunities, otherwise give a free-kick inside the box. Penalties ruin games imo.
Although the ground is touristy it hasn't lost its soul at least imo... million times better than the Etihad and Emirates. And yes huge shame about how many tourists were in the away end, I asked one if I could have his ticket but he wasn't having none of it. Think a few were chucked out too.
It won't but I meant really about the whole contact thing, contact will largely equal penalty in the near future.
I thought it would but going by the world cup it will actually make things worse. Players will go down on the slightest touch knowing that after being watched again from 17 different angles and 400 different speeds that they've got a good chance of getting a penalty.
The most exciting thing in all this, is that Bertrand is back in the side and getting himself into positions often enough to cause such controversy. Long may it continue. Eventually something will go in our favour.
