True but so are fans who just pick the best/biggest club to support. If United are selling 2 million shirts, that makes about 95% of these shirt buyers 'plastic'.
Have United got 2 million regular match going fans? No, then a large proportion are probably plastic. Same with all the big clubs but United have a higher percentage than most. Growing up in Essex surrounded by plastic 'mancs' I have first hand experience!
I dont go to matches now due to cost, Im not a Plastic as you state, most English dont go to England matches does that make them plastic? and how can 2 million fans regularly go to a stadium that holds 76k? You fail again, try harder
2 million of course cant attend a 76 k stadium but you've missed the point. Most wouldn't attend even if it held 2 million (!!) because how many of those 2 million shirt sales are in places like Asia and Africa etc where they just support the biggest team. They have no affiliation with United and just decide to support a successful brand in the same way as some people like wearing name branded clothing or watches. As someone who grew up being taken to Chelsea with my Chelsea supporting father, grand father and brothers, I just can't equate a teenager in China buying a United shirt as being a proper fan in the same way. You're not alone in being priced out of football though so I sympathise in that regard and the comment was no way aimed at you or proper United fans (of which there are not 2 million!)
No doubt there will be a proportion of these global fans who will go for the most successful/biggest club. But we have to accept there is also a more solid support for the club that it would be unfair to denigrate as plastic. I have had the good fortune of attending matches at OT since I was very young (but not so much now). But for many people all over the world who follow the club very closely, through its triumphs and tribulations over decades, this is not possible. Are they plastics? Not in the pejorative sense that people use that term. I know people who are more "plastic" living 50 miles from the ground than others living 5000 miles away.
I survey was done a few years ago to fans from Asia, on what team would you like to go see live 73% said to go to OT and see UTD play.
I wonder how many of those 2 million are from tge uk. Chances are most of them as asia has a thriving fake market.
Plastics are the **** fans who take up seats and go on their phone or tablet. The nutter from asia who on a tuesday night at 3am watches a blurry stream just to see his club. Goes to work and burns number 32 off the menu. Hes not a plastic, hes just a follower.
