carrabuh makes a very valid point, how can anyone eat battery farmed chickens or eggs, or indeed anything from the meat industry with all the inherent animal suffering involved, and then complain about a dog getting a slap?

    It's a morally bankrupt argument.

It's all about perception init. Dogs are cute, fluffy and cuddly. Often they are happy to see you and want to be your friend, whereas chicken just go around ****ting all over the place.

Yep, in that case you have the moral high ground to do so.

I don´t , I haven´t done for 30 years or more, that´s why I became a vegetarian, I can´t abide cruelty to any sort of animal, but thumping a dog in the head is certainly no more acceptable than any of the other atrocities mentioned here.

Excellent stuff RBF, years ago the Ipswich and Norwich hunt sabs would unite in the killing fields of East Anglia to save the lives of foxes and hares from the murderous scum that hunted them in the name of 'sport'. <ok>

Seriously tho' Warky, there were some days up against the ****ing evil Suffolk Hunt when we stood shoulder to shoulder with the Norwich lot and fought the ****ing hunters, tools involved on their behalf...iron bars etc

    We held our ground. <ok>;)

Sorry mate but I couldn't disagree more! Anyone that obstructs the legal right of others to go about their business are nothing short of anarchists and deserve to have full weight of the law thrown at them. Arthur Scargill and his mob certainly got what was coming to them and I class hunt sabs in that category.

Shouldn't really get involved in this one, but here we go.

As a species we have been eating meat for thousands of years as it was needed to survive, most of the population eat meat and I think vegetarianism is still in decline. As for killing animals to eat goes it's far more humane in most places than it was or ever has been. It's never going to be nice because at the end of the day the animal is going to end up dead but it has been that way for years.

I am speaking from experience here as I have been in many food processing factories as it is what my company is connected to. The standards overall are far higher than they have been and the suffering is kept to minimum in most modern factories,

I do however have an issue with Halal practices and think that this should be reviewed and if it were up to me I would ban it completely.

Fox's, that's a tough one. I have seen the result of a fox ripping apart lambs and chickens and it's not pretty. They can be a pest, but I'm not in favour of hunting traditional style. Better with 12 gauge.

    Good post Kempy.

A good mate of mine farms a few hundred acres of Livestock up on the North Yorks Moors and he has a hundred or so Sheep that roam on the moorland. Every year he loses up to 30 Lambs to Foxes and he sees first hand the damage that this vermin causes. He loses Chickens to them as well on a frequent basis. Since the hunting ban he has had to employ extra people to go out and shoot foxes in order to keep control of their numbers. It all adds extra costs to his business which as an already hard pressed farmer he can ill afford!

Would you have a problem with slaughtering/preparing/eating human meat then?

After all, it's just another sentient life.
