A few people have theoriesed our midfield will look something like this... Lennon Parker Sandro Modric ...with Bale coming up from left back, and VDV playing off the striker. Whilst we can rotate in Kranjcar, Pienaar, Livermore and GDS, it does leave a bigger question mark over fitting in Huddlestone - but he's a good enough player to get inmto the team anyway. I'm amazed the Mail isn't saying Modric running towards the crowd after scoring wasn't him trying to make a desperate escape for Stamford Bridge - even if they weren't playing at home (or away, for that matter...)
When you consider the team that we put out against PAOK, I'd say that having so many options in midfield should be seen as a blessing! The quicker that we can get everyone back and firing the better.
I'm not sure about playing Bale at left back. Seems unfair on Benny, who is better defensively than Bale and has been one of our best, and certainly most consistent players over the last two years
Yeah, it would be unfair on BAE. And what about the new strike partnership..? Tough decisions, and I'm glad I only have the pleasurable job of watching the mighty Spurs.
Brilliant game. I can't see changing a winning game at this point. Keep the lineup just as is, until there's a reason to change it. Splitting time between Krancjar and VDV makes sense as well. Away to Man City and Chelsea, and maybe for other away games I could see a good case for adding Sandro and subtracting Defoe. I wonder if King should automatically sit out every other game, or 2/3. The two clean sheets have a lot to do with him playing, and having him for the biggest games (Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea) would be ideal.
Agree with you red we need king in the big games i think any one of other defenders have a lot more confidence when king is in the back four. If only he didn't have his dodgy knee he would have been in the england squad and pushing rio and terry for a starting spot. I would hate to be Arry at the moment with so many good players and only able to choose 11 starters i feel sorry for him. I just hope he keeps to his word and does rotate the squad unlike last year as it cost us dearly in the final few weeks of the season.
To be honest, whoever the people HBIC said had theorised putting Bale at LB clearly don't watch the games and only read the papers that say things like "Bale, who can also operate at full back..." As great a player as Bale is, he's never really impressed much when at LB for me, yes his runs from the back (like they are now anyway) were great but he was caught out too many times. Plus his partnership with Benny along the left is fantastic. Benny is without a doubt one of the best left backs in the league and dare I say in Europe also.
