We will have a better idea of where we are heading after the next 2 home games. 2 victories, confidence will soar. Picking up fewer than 3 points will keep us nervous
Not sure if it was because Monk is finally gone or that Curtis put his arm around certain players and whispered in their ear a thing or two or a combination of both but all I seen all game was relaxed and inspired players from one end to the other. Whether we get a new manager right away or not it's obvious that Curtis has a finger on the pulse of the squad and his status at the club must be upgraded . I'd take my time scouting possible new managers up till the the Man U game on the 2nd and give Curtis a free reign till then . Who would have thought to start a 4-5.5 -.5 line up and finish it off by bringing in 2 speeding wingers as subs to spread the Man City defence and finish it up bringing in Gomis to sting them ...certainly not Monk , best sub changes of the season imo.
I don't believe in doing anything off the back of one game. But Curtis got his tactics, team selection and subs spot on. Maybe it's time for him to step up? Who knows?
Give Curtis the reigns. The players played for him. Total change to how they've played for Monk for too long. In fact I don't think I saw them play that we'll under Monk. Win many games but it wasn't the Swansea way. Back to normal yesterday and showed it was just the managers tactics that made them play like that. Well win the next two with that team. I'd stick the same 11 with the same tactics out. Palace will be tough but we can beat them before getting our customary 3 points away to Man United. Looking rosier and the points are there for the taking.
Well, Newcastle have beaten Spurs, leaving us 17th on goal difference ahead of Norwich who are now in the bottom 3. As I said earlier, yesterday's performance will count for nothing unless we use it as a springboard to win some games/points.
Mark Lawrence blasts Swansea players for playing so well the minute Garry Monk is gone .Maybe that's a question Lawrence should be directing at Monk . And while he's at it maybe ask Monk why he never played Britton and Routledge most of the season and why Tabanou was left out all year and why he was brought in at all for 3.5 million Or maybe why Fernandez was left out of the squad the last 3 games he was in charge, on the back of such a superb game against city , in favour of Bartley . And on the subject of pundits , why do they all comment on how Man City played less than a great game instead of the actual fact that Man City weren't allowed to play well because of how we played. Pundits are like weathermen , they get payed even though they're wrong most of the time .
We are in for a rough ride over the next 3 or 4 weeks, and we will probably drop into the bottom 3, unless of course we can start winning games from West Ham onwards, but without a serious Striker, I really do not see us moving up the table until we sign one in the January transfer Window, and hopefully Go-miss will go back to the bench where he belongs............
Cracking goal yesterday though, Phil. I'm not sure anyone else apart from Ayew would have been able to score that. He's our player and deserves his chance like any other. New manager, clean sweep.
Lets not get carried away it was one game, That performance was going to come with whoever had taken over as the players are probably glad to be rid of the last managers and it looked like the shackles had been taken off. He will not get the job and should not get it either. Great caretaker and that is it.
It was a great goal, and you cannot take that away from him, but was it a fluke? lets see what happens when he comes off the bench next game, though will Curtis start him? I hope not, as Ayew would be my preferred option to lead the front line, and he looks to want that too, if what he has stated in the media today are anything to go by............
Well I think he's done enough in previous games to prove it wasn't a fluke, Phil but he's been awful recently I agree. If ever a player needed an extended period on the bench it was Gomis but Monk kept playing him. Sometimes players need that kick up the backside. We definitely lack strength and depth up front and I still like the idea of Ayew as a front man, particularly the way we played Saturday.
Well he picked the side, formation and tactics, so he should be given some credit. Considering Fed normally has trouble passing to one of his own team mates 5 metres in front of him in midfield then yes, it was a fluke! Oh, you meant Gomis
Not sure who picked the team , I assume it was Curtis , but there was a definite looseness to the formation itself . Like they were told , within the formation ,to use their imagination and creativity . Like they were told not be to staunch in their position and be prepared to back up anyone who wandered a bit . The one big thing I noticed , in possession , was crafty old Britton running toward who had the ball to open space and stabilizing possession when our players played it to him . Also , we were as nasty in the tackle as I've ever seen us ........ Whatever happened or who is responsible for it , I hope we continue to play this way.
Which is why I still can't understand why Monk kept picking Jonjo over Leon. Leon is still our best passer and controller of the ball. Nobody also reads the game as good as he does and therefore always pops up in the right places. Him and Cork worked well together and that freed up Ki and Gylfi further up the pitch. Our starting CM trio should always be Leon, Jack, Ki with Gylfi playing in front of them.
Cork looked like he was given the biggest green light to follow his instinct , looked like he was really enjoying himself in his new found role too .A Happy player is a hard working player . Nothing against Shelvey but he just doesn't seem to have a spot to fit in . Ki was firing on all cylinders , I'm worried we might loose Routledge after that performance , the Harlem Globetritters will come in for him , Siggy looked like the every ready bunny and never stopped running . This was my favourite game to watch , be it on the tube , in the last 30 or 40 games , We were superb and so was the coach . Using your entire squad was what I learned from this game .Even Rangel had a pretty good game
