Amazing how many times our debutants have an absolute shocker or have a moment of terrible luck.

I wondered why we pay 7m, hint that he is in as a defensive mid-field cover, then play no part, using JoS and Rodders for 90 minutes, is a bit odd. This praise of said Rodders reminds me of the Jozy fiasco, I am still to be convinced, one swallow does not a summer make.

I don't recall anyone praising Altidore but yeah one good game for Rodwell doesn't mean much. However it's generally accepted that he has untapped potential so it's a little bit interesting that he's put in a good performance in his first game under Moyes.

Plenty did mate, in his barren spell here, eulogizing about his assist to Borini in the Derby, when he clearly lost control of the ball. Rodders did play a good pass yesterday, but for me the pass of the second half was Kone's. Sadly it did not result in a goal, but what a game he had under the circumstances. I hope Rodders does live up to his new found status, but I have serious doubts about this ever happening, hope I am wrong of course. <ok>

Is that the pass towards Defoe which didn't reach its target? It was almost a good pass but the keeper got there so it clearly can't be a better pass than Rodwell. Rodwell had a good game yesterday. Possibly his best in a SAFC shirt and a great assist. One swallow (as said before) but hopefully it's a sign of what a lot of us have been expecting/hoping for

I'm just wondering if we get the same audio here in the US, that you get over there. Near the beginning of the match did the more pompous of the pair say something like, "Sunderland can't have arrived here today harboring any serious ambitions."

    You don't mate.

I watched the NBC coverage with Lee Dixon yesterday and it was honestly some of the worst coverage I've ever heard. It's something I've noticed quite often throughout last season with the US coverage. The people over there aren't exactly getting good football education from their coverage something a country who's starting to take the sport seriously, need. These 3rd rate commentators are doing football and the people of the US a great disservice.

Just seems you've rounded up as many PL based ex pros as possible and chucked them a mic without looking into their knowledge of the game.

I always refused to have my match day threads pinned. They never dropped below 2nd page in the days running up. With it being a discussion thread I've always found them to be popular enough to stick around without being pinned. Don't think it's because of them being my threads either. All match day threads will have enough interest to keep it active. If they must be pinned, unpinning after the game is must to keep the place looking tidy imo. I like a tidy forum experience. :p

Baseball commentators are great teachers of the game. I always wondered why soccer/football commentators aren't the same, especially since football has a new and growing fan base.

Ours aren't great either tbh, far more interested in giving bias views to the top teams.

True enough. Normal traffic, injury updates, team news and such like kept them up there anyway.

Errr he passed to Defoe for the goal...imho Roswell was his usual invisible self for the rest of the game. Mcnair cost us a point

Us dropping too deep and PVA cost us the goal, he allowed the cross to come in from the Byline. The flash couldn't get out of the way let alone McNair.
