Always a hard one in hindsight. If we had scored in the first half with one of the chances we created would City have woken up and battered us second half? Only way we win that game in my view is if we scored with that free kick we went to the corner with in the last minute, I just feel going behind would’ve woken City up
I was just thinking that. Either the free kick at the end (which was silly not to go for) or the red/penalty.
Yeah but even the red/penalty still would’ve left City with about 30 mins to turn the game around, wouldn’t put that past them even with 10 men
MOTD just showed a different match to the one I watched. In their alternate universe Saints were not even on the pitch in the first half.
Incidentally, anybody recall how the game re-started after the overturned penalty? Presumably a free kick to City as Armstrong fouled the leg being wrapped around him from behind.
What was most disappointing was that Moss didn't seem to even watch the whole replay before changing his mind.
He only picks goalscorers so our only hope is McCarthy, unless he opts to put a striker in goal as well…
My mind goes back to that Bednarek penalty and red card for reluctantly breathing on Martial against Man U - night and day. Armstrong started to go down milliseconds before contact (actually he was probably shaping up to shoot) that’s the only argument against it but he was always getting bundled over anyway, even so ‘clear and obvious error’…
Don't think we will earn a more precious point all season. Radio Solent were suggesting prior to kick off that a 3-0 loss would not be a disgrace!!
Just watched MOTD. You have to wonder about these decisions. It's a pen in real time and in slow mo. Absolutely ridiculous what they are seeing if anything. Anyway, I'll try to move on!
Just watched it on MOTD. Words fail me about the penalty, completely baffling how that got overturned. Oh, wait, Jon Moss. Enough said. To anticipate what Glen De La Cour might put in his blog, I am guessing the conversation between the fat one and the VAR went something like this: “Martin? It’s Mossy, I’ve made a booboo. I’ve got a table booked at Las Iguanas after the match and I’ve gone and given a penalty against City! They’ll put extra chilli in my enchiladas again, what can I do?” “Oh you idiot, how many more times? Just pretend to watch it again on the screen and call it a Clear and Obvious. Everyone will believe you, you make enough of those!” From what I saw, a great performance by Saints, maybe a bit lucky a couple of times, but we are looking very tight defensively for the first time since Virgil and Jose left. Just need that little bit more attacking telepathy between the front 4 to happen and the goals will come.
Just seen the "penalty". Not a red card for sure but Moss certainly hasn't made a clear and obvious error when deciding it was a foul. Moss giving a red card on field probably ****ed us - that was the clear and obvious error. Had he given a yellow or no card the pen probably would have stood.
