City are the top team at the moment and have improved rapidly due to some crazy spending in the last few years. Much like us, you will attract bitters for mixing up the status quo. Unfortunetly it is the price of success. Worry when you're not get slagged off, not when you are!!

Obviously I don't want City costing us trophies etc but ultimately can't begrudge their fans a bit of success given the years living in United's shadow and the hard times they have had. Likewise wouldn't begrudge Everton a little success either. Both proper clubs with proper fans.

    You moronically deluded fool.

Just because 90% of chelsea fans will **** off doesnt mean all clubs support is as poor. United would have the biggest attendances in england regardless of whether we were in the PL, the Championship or League one.

The last time we were relegated our average attendance increased aswell. Cant recall any clubs having more come watch them play in a lower division than a higher one.

Well done for being stupid again DL.

In what way do any fans deserve success?

Please do take the time to explain this insane comment.

was it perhaps down to the fact neither club had the ability to be successful?

I presume United fans deserved success not so long back based on your erm..... theory <ok>

It happened regularly: our attendances went up when we got promoted in 76/7 compared to the season we were relegated, ditto the 80s.

Many teams in the 70s and 80s had bigger attendances when getting promoted from Div 2 than when in Div 1.

Being an old school city fan like you make out I suspect you know full well how United havent always been the number one side.

Like you watched United win everything, United watched their biggest rivals win everything over and over again? Yes.

Losing half your team in a plane crash, I can only imagine how it felt to be a United fan then but I would say it wasnt a booming time <ok>

    So yes, they are morons.

Eh.... all nice but I said United got relegated and our attendances increased.

    By 6000.

Not surprised clubs get more fans when they get promoted. No different to glory hunters. Like burnley when they went up, loads of dingles appear from nowhere only to vanish again a year later.

Big clubs, like Arsenal, United, Liverpool, Leeds and co, retain their fans much better.

Meant to say many clubs used to get bigger crowds after getting relegated, they would get bigger crowds in Div 2 while on a promotion challenge as fans like winning football. Not just United.

For example in Div 1 when we got relegated we averaged in the 74/5 we averaged 27k. In Div 2 we averaged 31k when we got promoted. Our crowds went up by 4k after we got relegated. It happened all the time.

United have had tough times like most clubs but given most of their current fan base has come from the success over the last 2 decades, I think we can assume a pretty small percentage of United's fan base actually experienced the Munich air disaster for instance.

There is no magic recipe for United's world wide brand and large attendances other than success and success at a time when football went global due to sky etc. United have no 'better' fans than any other big club. Just a bigger stadium and enough continued success to fill it.

The sole difference between United now and Liverpool is that United's success came in the 90's and Liverpool's in the 70/80's. Had it been the other way around Liverpool would be top dogs now.

Does anyone seriously think, rivalry aside that clubs from the major English Cities would lose a huge number of fans?

I mean I am pretty certain you call Uniteds crowd tourists and they would **** off..... to be replaced by those who are not tourists.

Now if Blackburn suddenly filled ewood in the championship, that would be impressive <ok>

There may well be plenty. But this 'plenty' would still represent a small percentage of United's fan base and match going public.

Frankly how this thread has been derailled to suddenly be all about United I'll never know.
