I agree, they've got top fans and I've never met a bad one (yet). I was in the whetherspoons in Birmingham before the game yesterday with mainly Chelsea in it and there was a pub next to it too with City fans, both sets were outside chanting songs at each other and afterward a few came over and shook our hands, wouldn't get that with many other of our title challengers.

I remember my first trip to Manchester (Old Trafford incidentally) and a City fan working at United guided us all the way from Victoria to Old Trafford, we didn't even have to ask. On that very tram journey a family of City fans could tell we were Chelsea and started chatting to us about football and once we parted ways they wished us all the best in the CL tie and we wished them all the best against United in the FA Cup.

Newcastle aside no other set of fans are as accommodating as City fans from my experience. There are not many northern clubs I like particularly the teams that surround City but they are definitely one of them.

No other set of fans deserve to see success as much as they do as far as I'm concerned. We've never had to witness Arsenal, Spurs or West Ham dominate like City have with United. West Ham have never won a title even though they've had reasonably good sides and Spurs or Arsenal have never retained the title post War

He can post all he wants, but he along with all other United fans have never had to experience struggle or being really down in the dumps like Chelsea mid 80s. Or City late 90s.

If the United, Arsenal and Liverpool type (that started following their respective clubs during successful periods) had a harsher introduction when following their clubs, I guarantee they'd be far less resentful towards Chelsea and City's successes. United fans in Manchester (that I know of) don't at all resent City's success because they know they have been through hard times. And families are split between the two. It's the same with me and my family and friends who support Arsenal.

The bitterness tends to come from out of towners (with no tie or connection to the club physically or emotionally) who latch on to blogs designed for them, it's the only way they can learn about their clubs

I asked because many big clubs retain their following when relegated to lower divisions.

    Leeds for example.

These are large clubs in large citys with pretty substantial fan bases.

How the hell can you be surprised when they get good attendance often double that of the rest of the sides in their division at times?

    Newcastle another, Sunderland, West Ham.

Hell if United got relegated this season 70000+ would be there every game next season. Arsenal would have huge attendances in the championship.

So simply put, what exactly is impressive about it? Wigan averaging 20000 in the championship would be an impressive feat, man city or any club thats one of the biggest in one of the biggest citys in the country doing it isnt all that impressive a feat to be fair.

Not that I was alive during the 70s or indeed the 50s how in gods name can you even suggest United fans dont know what its like to go through the ****. Compared to you some United fans have been through more than you as a football fan ever have.

They have also been through relegation, starved of success and seen times as baron and as harsh as any Chelsea or Manchester City fan. Are you aware on a number of occasions we almost went bankrupt, had to be bailed out? Probably not.

Some of the younger generation may of been blessed with great success but to suggest all united fans have no idea. Moron. Seriously. Complete utter moron. Some on this site have seen the worst of times.

So yeh I will reply, to tell you how ****ing stupid you are <ok>

Thats a heart warming story <ok>

On a serious note City fans are a nice bunch, well famed for it and once, dirty as it made me feel I paid a quid to and watch a pre season friendly at Turf Moore between City and Burnley. It was a quid and I was in town with friends so why not, no issue with me being a United fan and I have to say, there were many for a pre season game away at the dingles and they were bloody loud.

HAd a scalding hot bath when I got in <ok> <laugh>

Doesn't look like there have been too many hard times. Most of those that frequent Old Trafford will have rarely, if ever, seen them finish outside the top three. No United fan has ever seen times "as baron and as harsh as any Chelsea or Manchester City fan" and to suggest so is silly imo.

As you've already admitted before that you don't go to any matches, you're opinion on other teams attendances is neither valid or interesting. If you were born earlier its pretty much guaranteed that you'd be on the dippers board wearing your Suarez is innocent t shirt

I'm speaking in the way that i have quite a few City mates who have been rubbing it i etc. since their Premier League showdown. Obviously they have a right to because of all they have been through but the point is that I hope they don't become like the fans of United who are well and truly despised. At Villa Park they completely outsung us. I don't know why we didn't sing up more being our first competitive match of the season and having won the Champions League but their fans were better than ours no doubt.

Tbh mate I'm not really that bitter about it all. With 10 men against a team that couldn't stop scoring in the league last season, I knew it would be a very tough gamedue to their attacking threat and outstanding bunch of players...

Also... I didn't watch the game but saw highlights... what was the Toure song?

UNited relegated once since the war: I've seen Chelsea get relegated twice and we'd just been relegated when I started supporting them.#

Financial problems: Nothing compared to Chelsea. YOu nearly went bankrupt once in the 70s and once in the 80s, when else?

But to be fair you didn't win the league or reach CL final last year so: Fergie out! Glazers out! Sell Rooney.
Only getting 88 points must have been terrible for you last year

    Your absolutely deluded.

If United got relegated to the Championship you'd struggle to get over 50,000. You'd maybe sell out for Leeds but that's about it.

We're talking about dropping down not one division here were talking 2.

I remain convinced that with the exception of Newcastle, West Ham, Spurs and at a push Chelsea no other club would be able to hold an 85% attendance:capacity if they were in the 3rd tier. Very few clubs manage over that in the Premier League now at affordable prices

United have not sold out their season tickets on general three seasons in a row after titles and CL finals.

Why would season ticket sales go up if they played in the Championship?#

The United fans following now are not the loyalists of the 60s and 70s; they are tourists who are not flying in from Dublin and Dubrovnik to watch Doncaster

The more successful you are the more plastics sign up. It is the plastics we all hate, all the top teams have them. No one wants to be labelled a plastic, it is an anathema. There is a breed of person who truly believes that by wearing a uniform they automatically inherit all that is good about they clan.

I find the negativity towards city fans a bit bemusing really. There is very little chance for glory hunters to go to games as there are so few tickets left after the season tickets 36k and away allocation 3k is taken off then it's members with loyalty points after that so they rarely get to general sale
Away tickets are impossible for newbies to get because they are done on a loyalty points system which in effect means if you weren't a season ticket holder before Sven was manager you won't get a ticket.Points are given for each game attended usually 20 points and sometimes doubled to 40 for a midweek carling away trip. You won't get an away ticket with less than 7000 points unless it's Blackburn who give us about 9000

    This

I'd ignore the post if I were you Paul. Most real football fans deep down know their history. The only people that will believe City are glory hunters are probably Arsenal fans from Uganda that read tripe like Arseblog and United fans from Essex that read stuff like the Republik of Mancunia. It's the only way they can read about their clubs as they can't experience what it's like to be a proper supporter firsthand?

We had the same things said about us. Before RA our attendance was only about 1,000 higher (bear in mind our attendance was gradually increasing anyway due to stand expansion), we have the same things said about us despite averaging the 5th best support of all time. The only 4 sides above us being awash with trophies and spoilt by success.

Chelsea and City fans are every bit deserving of success

United would get good gates if relegated cos they are a big club but to suggest 70000 every week is unlikely. All those tourists would soon stop going if you were playing Scunthorpe instead of Arsenal and Liverpool.
