hilts, i think first season here he did an excellent job to get us to 6th given the hand he was played. second season, i think a large part of our success was the investment by tan, though of course he deserves some of the credit for getting the squad to gel and win games. you also forgot players like kiss, miller, velinjonja (accept it may not have been a MM signing), plus big wages on tommy smith, he spent around £10m in transfer fees, thats a huge amount at this level. he also got to keep all our key players and build around them, which is a luxury which jones never had. just adding a bit of balance to the debate. i think he is a very good manager, just that there are better out there, as evidenced by his failure to land a job as of yetâ¦â¦..
God bless you Hilts 24, a beacon of light amid all this lack of appreciation for one of our greatest servants
Whiffle, I think everyone appreciates what MM did for us but personally I do not think he was the greatest ever city manager. I was for MM staying in his job up to the point he started playing the politics game with Tan. He was either incredibly stupid or he did it to orchestrate his dismissal.
It's not surprising that some Malky apologists would take this thread as a go at him. Back to the subject matter and to guide the thread away from these age old issues......... Appears Sherwood is insisting that he brings Les Ferdinand with him as assistant to take the job, but Parish wants him to accept Keith Millen who's already there. Could go either way depending upon who backs down. I thought it was normal when you bring a manager in to run the team side of things, he should be allowed to bring his own choice of people with him - maybe Malky wont be so insistant if he wants the job as badly as he's made out.
Best city manager without a doubt, Jimmy Scoular. He didn't achieve what Malky did, but he had bugger all to spend, and did so much with what he had. Tough no nonsense man!
Malky back as clear favourite as Sherwood's stance on insisting he appoints his own staff sees his grip on the job slacken. http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/crystal-palace/next-permanent-manager
Got to admire Sherwood for taking that stance and supporting the guys who support him. Similarly Parrish is showing good loyalty to Millen (remember him at the Wurzels - he was pretty clueless there). Both very unusual traits in football these days. They like their stand offs at Palarse don't they. From the news in last couple of days - Pulis didn't leave over transfer matters - what the hell did he leave for then? Is there a better job on the horizon?
Well well, Malky didn't miss out on the job. All betting suspended pending the announcement of his appointment.
https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/premier-league-paper-round-di-maria-can-join-032317237--sow.html Hoddle shock choice to get Palace job: Bookies suspended betting on former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood getting the Crystal Palace job, and The Sun claims that talks have advanced to such a level he could be announced as the south London club's new manager later today, the paper claims. But the Independent runs a piece throwing all that into doubt, reporting that former England and Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle applied for the job at Palace and sees it as the ideal way to get back into a top job - adding that Hoddle took his current coaching role at QPR, "on the basis that it would be a pathway back into management." Malky Mackay also remains in the running to replace Tony Pulis, with Sherwood's negotiations apparently complicated by his desire to bring in assistants Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey, possibly over the head of Palace's caretaker boss Keith Millen.
Done deal DJ - if you believe the mirror. Betting has all been suspended though so it looks like it's true. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/crystal-palace-set-appoint-malky-4074350 http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/crystal-palace/next-permanent-manager
With so many in the frame I think they should go for the musical chairs system. Could be fun to watch with it getting progressively more physical as the chairs got removed and managers eliminated. Hoddle who never liked a scrap would be one of the first to go. I could see it coming down to Malky, Sherwood and Neil Lennon who could all dish it out. Malky would be favourite due to his size advantage over the others. Whichever way they cut it, it's going to be a lottery
Anyone know this chap ? Pilib de Brun (Philip Brown) His Twitter account gives this bio. Co-Host of Beyond the Pitch on Sirius XM CH 94 and on One World Sports. Can be found on talksport from time to time. Lover of the sweet science. 2 interesting tweets from him today. Pilib de Brún @Malachians Feel sorry for Palace fans with Malky Mackay. Horrible horrible person. Not the type of person you want at your club. Pilib de Brún @Malachians For legal reasons can't expand on the Malkay Mackay stuff.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cardiff-city-set-launch-legal-7645608 I think Tan should let this drop.
Heard that on the radio too - puts Steve Parish in a corner and he may have to offer Tim Sherwood again. Also reinforces the possible view that there may be complications on the transfer front!
