I don't wish Cardiff City or their fans any ill will - they are local rivals who have done well in recent years and many of us would gladly swap places with them....prem footy and a nice new stadium. The Tan situation is ridiculous bit underscores what modern day footy has become - traditions and the clubs themselves have become increasingly irrelevant - rich individuals buy them for massive ego trips and the fans are somewhat in a catch 22 - do we try to keep traditions and accept lower quality footy or do we sell our souls to reach the promised land? Say what you like about Steve L but we have a benefactor from our city who genuinely cares about the club and it's past. He has personally underwritten it's short term future but has made some monumental mistakes. The question is are Steve's mistakes worse than those at Cardiff, a club who have reached the holy grail but have become the laughing stock of footy in recent weeks and have sold their traditions for better Malaysian press coverage? Would I swap places with them today? Hell yes as we are in freefall but we remain a community focused club which will have more lasting value than any of Mr. Tan's money.
I did respect the Cardiff City fans, but then so many of them turned to the red side. I remember our game against them last year, and the sheer number of fans wearing red scarves and red shirts was disgusting. In my mind, they've dug their own grave. Mackay did well to get them where they are, and I've gained a lot of respect for him. However, Tan has built Cardiff's new empire on a foundation of even more debt. It won't be long until he gets bored of his new play-thing, and calls his debt in. When that happens, they will be well and truly ****ed. A lot of people will point to their predicament before he came in, and I've heard a lot of fans say that they would have been liquidated if he didn't come in. That's absolute bollocks and they know it. Administration would have happened, without a doubt. However, they had enough assets to ensure survival. They may have had to drop a division or two, but they would have been fine. The club took the easy route by letting a crazy Malaysian take over their club, and it's come back to bite them. As much as I'd love to see us in the top flight, I'd never swap our problems for theirs to get there. For all the bitching we do about our board, it's worth remembering that it could be a lot worse.
'As much as I'd love to see us in the top flight, I'd never swap our problems for theirs to get there'. Let's see. Our last few games have included Tamworth, Notts County,Walsall and Stevenage Borough. Their next few games include trips to Arsenal,Man City and Man Utd. They have a rich nut case in charge who has changed their manager. Our rich benefactor has gone through 3 or 4 managers in the recent past. Tan's changed the colour of their kit from red to blue. If our players wore blue I'd always wear red. Just because some clown decrees I should wear blue I would never listen. Football and life is transitory. Tan will be gone in a while and sure as life Cardiff City will play in blue (at home) again.
Can't believe Ole Gunner Solskers (however you spell it) is going to Cardiff. Fergie told him you choose the chairman not the club. I don't think he heard that correctly, why would he want to work with Tan the Nutter?
At the end of the day it's a premier league job, they have a good squad and he will be paid very well, he just needs to secure himself a long term contract so when he's sacked the pay off will be huge
