"I use this analogy, imagine your children leave home at 21 having not paid rent, been fed, watered and clothed. But they just leave home, taking everything you bought them and does not say thank you. Would you not be annoyed and let down?? well thats how i feel." There speaks someone yet to have children.... Rent? No Fed, clothed and watered? Of course Taking all they've been bought? Fair enough, they were bought for them Thanks? Perhaps not until they're much older Doesn't mean they don't love you though...
Think some of the more mature members on here have a very shrewd view of us "youngsters" I would admit to not paying rent (yet anyway, when I can get a decent paying job I happily would), being fed, watered and clothed. But not saying thank you? I'm sure there are quite a few ungrateful sods out there but I always try to show my gratitude. Besides...Malky is not our kid. He is more like a loved and looked after caretaker.
I also admit to not paying rent, but thats not my own fault. Mum knew i was studying the law when she told me that she would never make be pay "whilst i was in education". I do not finish Uni till Friday and therefore, as per her own terms i do not have to pay. It is also down to the fact that whilst i do live her, i often pay for my own food (takeaway or home cooked) and I do not have a job currently (besides helping with mums parcels) therefore i have no money to give. However, i always make sure to say thank-you for anything i am given and try to help as best i can. I wold never dream of walking out with out thanking the family.
Let's forget MM now - he has not really gained and we certainly have not lost. Had MM stayed here another year and taken us into or just near the play offs I think he would have attracted top attention - as it is he did slightly worse league wise than his predecessor - who got sacked - and that was with the ability to buy who he wanted. Yes - good cup run - but in the end fruitless
I think Malky did a terrific job at Cardiff, bearing in mind the 'star' players all left in the summer and he was left with the basics. To make the top 6 was a hell of an achievement in my eyes. Many Cardiff fans (I will include myself in that bracket as they are my buddies on here ) thought that mid table was likely to be the highest they would finish. I would not say finishing 6th is classed as a failing. Take my word for it, they will be top 6 again next season as well - you heard it here first
They were left with the nucleus of a good side and took their pick of our players and staff and had money to spend - most Cardiff fans I saw speaking had them in the Premiership for certain this year - they did not sack a man who took them to the play offs twice for mid table obscurity. MM does not know how to play a full season - his sides tail off after Christmas
Malky leaving has not done us any harm and possibly in the long term some good. As an aside would be interested to know what fans think of Ian Woan's contribution or should he have stuck with a career in modelling.
I have no problems with the guy, i got to speak to him after the boro' game and he was generally pleased with the effort over the season, but did acknowledge that there is plenty of room for improvement. I also see that he is very hands on and does get involved before matches, during the warm up.
They didn't even have 11 first team players when Malky took over, they were in a worse state than ourselves.
I doubt that very much Mitch. They got to the play offs with a full squad - you mean to tell me they were all then out of contract. Or perhaps the club sold / let them go to generate funds so that MM could build his own squad . Either way - they had a choice and MM clearly thought he was walking into somehthing he considered not "worse state than ourselves"
Nor did we Mitch. Sean Dyche has said a few times that when he took over we only had 7 recognised first team players. Dont forget we then lost Sordell (top scorer at that time) then in January. Yes Cardiff might have lost a few players, but they had money to spend on players and MM had an established back room staff and had pre selected targets. Dyche had to rebuild almost the whole club, not just the team. And all of this on a shoe string budget and under a new owner who we knew nothing about. Whilst MM had little control over some of those things, he did not have to deal with them.
Well put Dan - but from all his pro Blue (sorry stirke that soon to be Red) birds posting I am now wondering if Mitch is not a closet Cardiff fan in drag
Cardiff let quite a few players ago... but they also had the money to lure lots of players on small fees/free transfers with high wages. We have less money than them...and would never be able to lure a player like Miller or Earnshaw. We easily had it worse.
We spent more than Cardiff last summer. Nearly every single signing they made was a free transfer. Infact I think Kenny Miller was the only signing they made that cost a fee.
Yet Dave Jones seemed to suggest Malky had more to spend than he did... Which seemed odd TBH. I think Malky will be safe so long as Cardiff are up the top again.
Maybe Miller was the only player who cost a fee - but you do have to factor in the wages - and I'd put money on it that Cardiff pay considerably more than us. For a start, I seem to remember the rumour that MM doubled his wage by moving..... As for signings - both permanent and loans - off the top of my head I can count six that Cardiff made up to the early part of the season - Miller, Cowie, Conway, Kiss, Gunnarsson and Earnshaw; whereas we made ten - Iwelumo, Garner, Dickinson, Yeates, Kightly, Forsyth, Buaben, Hogg, Nosworthy and James. Anecdotal I know, but it does tend to suggest which club was deeper in the financial mire.
Do I notice a common factor in the play off semi finals. Both teams that lost wear blue shirts. Could this be a reason that Cardiff are thinking about changing to red?
