Doubtful. They're not European.
They've let a few out now, not enough terror or whiteness to qualify for our empathy
Some Chinese and Indians in there.
I wonder if they took the hotel for a specific person/reason. Haven't heard why they attacked now and why there. Mali's already an Islamic nation although not under sharia.
There were obviously seeking Westerners, and that's the most likely place to find them in Mali I guess.

Don't think the attackers would be able to tell you why they've done it beyond shouting allahu akbar at you and pointing their guns in the air then blowing themselves up. What are their motives other than killing and causing chaos wherever they can ??

Then they go to hell and are forced to drink 72 virgin piña coladas and there isn't a beach in sight.

Trying to convince myself surely the most secure places in the world are those straight after an attack.
Like your thinking, similar to when somewhere has a natural disaster, can't happen again already
France have had dozens of operations against Al Qaeda across central Africa in the last couple of years.
They've not been shouting about it via the media but they've been systematically smashing them.
