Let us not re write history chaps. I have been going since 1961/62, with last seasons break the only time I have stopped going totally. I didn't go to every Home game when we were at Selhurst but I still went to the away games.
I will be going next Season to the Home games and a few aways and to as many U21 and U18 games as I can. My Love of Charlton is still there, as is my dislike and distrust of RD and his lap dog.

I consider my VG membership as my season ticket to Sparrows Lane, I will still be going to the U18 games but as I work I can not make the U21 games.

Having started going to the Valley in the early 70's and only giving up my Season Ticket two seasons ago, I thought I would find Saturday afternoons a big problem but.... I go to watch Welling from time to time and Missy keeps me busy working on the house ...... would I return as a season ticket holder when the Douche and the Witch finish asset stripping the Club and depart? ........ you bet I will <ok>

Could it just be that actually we overvalue our youngsters?

Playing devils advocate to a degree. But I do feel like we haven't really seen the full potential with him being largely played out of position. That's probably why I'm even more disappointed at the prospect of a sale; we all knew he'd go one day but I for one would have hoped to have seen him play a full season in his best position first!

It is impossible to know which u18s will make it as full-time pros at any level, let alone at the particular level your club may be at the time. Just look at the hundreds of youngsters who play on up through the various youth age-groups for England yet their careers flicker briefly at senior level (if at all) only to be extinguished. What I call "Osei Sankofa syndrome". You would expect these to be among the best, so what chance have the rest got?

Alhough I have always supported Charlton since 1947 (beat that, you Johnny-come-latelys), it took Chris Powell's return as manager to really rekindle my enthusiasm. I was naive enough to think we had got our club back. At that time we had a promising youth team and the one most tipped for the top was Sho-Silva. Is he still "promising"?

And it cuts both ways. After many years of work, and a hundred chances to see them play, the Arters, the Wilsons, the Turners, and their like are discarded as not up to our standard. And all clubs are much the same.

Of course, if the kid has talent like Gomez and Poyet, it makes prognostication easier, but many seemingly as good have failed to make their mark (Frimpong, Ravel Morrison, McGinty, etc).

What's going on with Sho-Silva - after terrorising Utd at old trafford it looked like he was the real deal. He doesn't seem to have had a decent goal return since that season.

Every(!!) news outlet are now reporting it as a £3.5million deal.

I said it was odd that Cawley, after stating his lack of links to the charlton hierarchy, then came out and told us this figure was inaccurate and publicised from Liverpool.

    Taken from facebook:

Not sure how much has been raised by Valley Gold, I've been a member since inception, but the academy is not only financed by VG and Draw Ticket contributions. If there are approx 1,900 VG members that's £228.000 a year, take off around 50k for prizes it brings in around £178,000. Not sure when funds started going into the Academy but let's say 10 years, that's 1.780m. If Gomez goes, plus Jenkinson's transfer fee, that's a return of around 12m at least if not more. But is it really now worth supporters continuing with VG? now the owner has stated the club is financially stable. The plans are to make money for the club from academy player sales, so perhaps it's time supporters left the owner to it. I got my seasonal ticket VG discount, time to consider jacking VG in I'm afraid.

i did that, renewed my season ticket using the discount then cancelled my vg.

i dont care about the £15 it saved me. it was more about wanting to see our kids play for us, not getting 10 games and being moved on for profit. we'll never get another rufus or leaburn with this owner.

Don't mention leaburn, you'll have Franco spitting somewhere <laugh>.

Last summer Brighton and Derby fought off interest from big sides and convinced their talent to stay. Not great seasons for the clubs, but the player value has grown.

I was amazed when Gomez signed a contract last summer. The club as it is now is not going to inspire loyalty, and I think Gomez has done as much as he could reasonably be expected to do for a club with a revolving door policy of players and managers.

It is obvious that Joe could not see Luzon taking him to the next level so he has gone somewhere where he hopes the coaching staff can ...... his error is that he has chosen Liverpool to do that rather than say Arsenal.... that's the bit I can't understand.

Agreed. I hoped he'd go to Arsenal, where youth development is central to Wenger's football philosophy. I don't suppose he could see any way of fulfilling his ambition to play in the The Premier League with Charlton.

I doubt anyone can see Luzon taking them to the next level. If the fans have no faith in him, how can we expect our players to do so?

All it is, is Doucebag and "YesWoman" Katrien, who have faith. #SackedBySeptember
