he's back in full training. I'd suggest William Kvist who should sign today is more of the player we want than Diarra - who is a long way from match fitness. I'd write him off.
Clutching at straws!? "Fulham manager Felix Magath is having a look at midfielder Mahamadou Diarra. The former Real Madrid star hasn’t featured for the Cottagers since December 2012 due to a serious knee injury. Diarra’s contract expired last summer, but he was training at Motspur Park in a bid to prove his fitness, only to be bombed out by former boss Rene Meulensteen. However, the 32-year-old has resumed full sessions with the Fulham first team after Magath took charge a fortnight ago. The German chief has turned to the club's old heads as he bids to steep them to safety, with Brede Hangeland and Scott Parker having been restored to the side. And Diarra is hoping to do enough to earn a new short-term deal with the Premier League strugglers for the final few months of the campaign." I know this has said before but a fully fit Diarra would walk straight into the team, his composure and ability is brilliant.
His ability isn't in question, his fitness is. Unfortunately for us, he's about as fit as Darren Anderton. I bloody hope we haven't been paying his wages all this time.
Darren Anderton in his playing days or Darren Anderton now? (Actually now he is arguably fitter than during his playing days).
I can already see it - he starts, does something classy, a few mins later collapses and the team deflates.
It's another Stuart Holden. you have to stop yourself getting excited for their return because you know it will be short lived. I can understand Holden's continued desire to get back on the pitch considering his relatively young age, but Diarra should just face facts and call it a day to be honest.
The thing with Diarra is he has what murphs had, an ability to interpret the game whilst it is happening and change to improve things. Too many players now know how to do one thing and cannot adapt. I guess experience gives you more chance of doing this, unless of course you are someone like rooney who just does it without thinking.
I think Diarra deserves a huge amount of respect. The bloke's had so many setbacks and could've easily retired, but he got back to fitness, unpaid, and finally came back yesterday and did well.
Very true. 16 months without being paid yet he stayed at the club and worked as hard, if not harder than any other player. Then to accept a pay-by-play contract. Got to respect him for that. Must have a bit of loose change left over from his Madrid days.
So pleased to hear that he came back and played so well, it looked like he played 90 minutes as well. Love the fact that McGath said he likes him as he plays the ball forward. Did anyone watching the game notice that he brought other players into the game more than say Sidders or Parker. Seriously hope he stays fit because characters like him and Holtby and Richardson are just what we need at the moment.
