I reckon the most we could ever have sold him for would have been 3m - and then we would not have had him contributing to our survival last season. He was never a world beater and I don't think he ever will be. He was just a half decent utility who would have cost us more 30k or more in wage from here on. I reckon we can do a lot better for that wage. As for missing out on the transfer fee - I'd rather have had his contribution to our survival last season. And it's far from a total waste as he's given us several good years of decent service without having to buy some one (which would have cost several million). All in all, we've done very well out of him and I look forward to bringing in someone better because we really need it. As for Jack himself, I think we should all be happy with the effort he put in and let him go with our best wishes. He was never our best player, a fan favourite or cult hero so it doesn't matter where he goes and I don't feel like he's stabbed us in the back. He's just a Geordie kid going home, no biggie. I reckon he did well to give us 10 years and score against them lot to cap it all off.
Dear diary 11th June 2014 ........ There's a club who had a DOF who never signed a player, who are selling players like Cabaye, pocketing the money and picking up free transfers. I know this is the Mirror but I really hope it's true - especially the £50k a week bit!! that is crazy money for a decent but average player. Would anyone pay £50k a week for Steve Sidwell or even Ki Seung Yung? Not me - those three players are of a similar level

Hate repetitive threads, fair do if somebody doesn't realise there already is one because it's dropped of the first page but half these OP's are adequate posts for the existing thread but no way worthy of their own thread.
