D d They may lose to Barcelona and be fired up at Wembley ... ... or win, arrive full of confidence and be totally relaxed. Newcastle have never been to a Wembley final and I think they'll be overwhelmed. Some of their players just don't have any big match experience. In 1974 I actually wanted Newcastle to win, as my Mag relatives had been the same with us the year before ... ... many Sunderland wanted 'the NE' to come out on top but few will want the Saudi State to wi.this time. It'd be the headline story on Al Jazeera
Remember those days well. Preferred them to the animosity that is common today, specialy amongst the Children.
Me too mate. They're only our rivals when we play against them. As a boy growing up,I knew many who went to St James one week and Roker the next. I always wanted NE football to be top. It seemed like an honour for us to have such passion for the game and to produce so many great players.
Even if they put the second choice junior who‘s carrying an injury in goal , you can see the outcome. He’ll play a blinder , be MOM and single handedly be the Toon cup winner
.I'm just not bothered what they do, sooner or later they'll buy a shiny pot to wave around. I was similar in '74 mind. I watched it in my mate's parent's house . They had a relative from Canada over who knew nowt about football and they quite rightly tried to big it all up. An awful flop that was, but I wouldn't have minded them winning for the family. And he's still my mate! All before the poisonous chancer and ex Sunderland ST holder John Hall and his rabble rousing. Now it's like watching a team from another continent........
Declaring the town of Newcastle 'the home of the Geordie Nation' was absolutely shameful ... ... it's now ingrained in the SKY DNA and, to a degree, we've allowed it to happen. We used to sing proudly about being Geordies at Roker Park.
We used to sing Blaydon Races in those days. Ok,Sunderland was substituted for Blaydon, but it was the same song.
I remember us singing 'Geordies' to Mull of Kintyre' for half an hour at Blackburn in the seventies ... ... sounded fantastic, the locals just looked confused
It was Gannin along the Roker Roooad . . . . to see the Sunderland Races (an obvious reference to Sunderland Greyhound races)
You know, I dont think he actually is Gordon Armstrong. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that I dont think he has ever played for Sunderland at all!
Funny story about calling it a Mickley mouse trophy. When we were losing to MK Dons in the early rounds and looking like we were going out,I text my mate and said "it's a Mickey mouse cup anyway" He replied after we beat them saying "I won't be saying that when we get to the final" My response "if we get to the final I'll go as Mickley mouse!!" Stayed true to my word and went to the final dressed as Mickey Mouse! Photo was the morning of the final, very hungover before we started again!
I’m hearing from a season ticket holder that the Mags haven’t sold all their tickets or they have had payments bounce so are ringing round people to see if they want one!
