Lord Lucans skeleton remains have finally be found after all these years in the Newcastle trophy room, a better place to hide has yet to be found in a place never visited with nothing to offer
Well I really hope that, and might not be too bad in England where people know what is going on. I think it might be worse overseas, ike America say, where a lot of people still haven't 'picked their team' yet, especially if the media stops asking questions about the the Saudis - which they will do as they can't keep criticizing their own product forever. Everyone will 'forget' and just go on about the 'entertainers', the amazing Toon Army and all the cups in the 50s.
It's about laughing at them though. They have always been hopelessly lacking in self awareness and it will get worse and worse. Always more material!
The main issue will be young kids in Sunderland. We could loose a generation of young fans that haven't quite made their minds up of who to support. If we keep lounging around the lower leauges, Newcastle start doing well, kids around here start getting into football, see them doing well, they start supporting them. Seen a young lad on my way to the match on Saturday, probably 10 or 11 yeard old,he was heading into the town with his Dad. Lad had full Man City strip on. I found it sad because it was slightly symbolic. Here's us heading towards the stadium for a 3 o'clock kick off of Sunderland at home, and here's one potential lads fan heading in the opposite direction in a Man City strip. As I've said before, our former rivals are beyond loaded. 90 million in Jan was a drop in the ocean. I've seen what they're trying to do branded as the "Newcastle project". It isn't guaranteed success, however, they'll be up there. Any kid in Washington, Sheilds, etc will just Support them.
This is my main worry too, and there's nothing much we can do about it, short of getting back into the premiere more or less immediately (soonest is August 2023), coupled with some unlikely strengthening of the fair play rules to stop the mags buying success in the same way the Chelsea and Man City have done.
It was on talkSPORT last week that FFP rules are going to be relaxed to the point where they basically don't exist. In theory, the mag owners could give a laundrette to a family member, put 500million into the company then have that company sponsor the Mags with.... 500 million. I've heard Saudi Golf is going to sponsor them. Meanwhile, we're where we are. Money in football is disgusting. People lining up to pay the 2 plus billion for Chelsea man.
I think we could do it enough to get out of div 1 and the championship though, also if Leicester can do it anyone in the premiership can do it if you buy right and manage right.
No one in my family were/are into football. I got into it as i started the comp. Only football I could get to watch was Man U on a Wednesday night in the champions league on ITV. Then I went to the first game at the sol and Sunderland were my team. I never supported Man U, just watched the football. But in all honesty, I could've ended up like these Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal "supporters" that couldn't find their stadiums with a sat nav. But I choose 1st division Sunderland. Kids in a few years time will choose Newcastle because they will probably be in the champions league. Some kids, not all.
Well we need to do something mate, all this "you don't need to spend in leauge 1 to get promoted" myth has went right out the window. Others may have done but we can't.
Why do people believe we shouldn’t buy older players to get us out of this division. There are plenty of older players who are excellent but not good enough for the premiership now, doesn’t mean they want to come for a last payday.
Only issue is, do we have the financial clout to do it? Let's face it, when Short was here we knew where we stood, there was no money so it's touch **** and we can all kind of respect that because we knee where we stood.Since then, the last owners were full of **** and the new one has been slightly indifferent with the truth. So, it remains to be seen if we accurately do have any kind of money in the coffers. It's a wait and see and that's what I'll be doing. My once blind faith support has turned into I'll believe it when I see it support. lol
Couldn't agree more mate. We've tried the "git fast younguns that want to he here approach". Leauge one I'd filling up with ex Premier league clubs and harder to get out of.
