It's typical of them, rewriting history to suit their agenda. Its not that long ago (2011-2012 season) that they were being lauded by the media for having a great scouting network bringing in bargains like Cisse relatively cheaply compared to fees that other clubs were spending. Now it's "we're held back because we don't spend enough". They won't accept that they've wasted money by not investing in a decent scouting network and not having a decent academy set up to bring in and develop young players. They just think that spending moneys the answer and ignore that doing that under Hall and Shepherd nearly screwed them up until Ashley bought them.

I know I've posted previously that the HMRC are still going for NUFC, when some people claimed it has all passed over, but this is actually from the club. It seems strange that they just issue this statement at the moment, they're under no obligation to do so.

When I asked the chap who gives me NUFC info I was more than a little surprised at his answer. He reckons word around the campfire is that the club have taken advice that they will be punished with a 6 point deduction. They've subsequently deliberately delayed giving up information to the HMRC until they'd be safe from relegation. The timing has to be spot on so they're safe but take the deduction this season. They don't want to start next season with one which would put off a potential takeover. He reckons they've applied this logic every season but have never been free of a relegation threat early enough in the season. They're playing a dangerous game though, the PL can choose when to impose the deduction ... so he believes.

" Newcastle United are still for waiting for an outcome from an HMRC investigation which started three years ago.

HMRC have the power to impose financial penalties if the club are found guilty. The Premier League could then levy points deductions."

    Something is stirring.

If Newcastle think they're safe they can take a 6 point hit, pay the fine and clear the decks for a takeover ...

... they've withheld information for years and don't have reasonable grounds.

If they've deliberately delayed things for their own selfish reasons (I don't understand how it could be up to them, mind, 'cos surely they would have had deadlines so that they couldn't withhold information) they should be dealt with more severely than they would have been, and the least that should prevail is a similar punishment to Swindon when they were found guilty of financial irregularities. Ideally, like Swindon, they should be made to swap places with S.A.F.C. (which would fulfil my own selfish reasons) :emoticon-0105-wink:

They instructed their solicitors to fight the request to divulge all the necessary paperwork.

Though with Wilson injured for a few weeks things could start to get tight around the relegation places again. The Premier League might only issue a 6 point deduction but the EFL might go further as they could say that twice the Mags have benefitted from those actions.

If HMRC have issued notices requiring the production of documents, the lawyers can only fight it if HMRC have not first obtained prior judicial approval from the Tax Tribunal. If HMRC has not done this, and they probably wouldn't bother, the taxpayer can appeal against the notice to the Tribunal. If the Tribunal rejects the appeal, you have to produce the documents, but the whole process is pretty slow at the moment due to the COVID pandemic, so the mags probably have time on their side, depending on when the process started.

It seems they know they're guilty but trying to time any points deduction to coincide with safety from relegation ...

... hence the delay all these years <laugh>

When Newcastle beat West Brom in December they were 10 points clear of Fulham and a much better GD.

After tonight it could be a 7 point gap, game in hand and better GD for Fulham and Newcastle to go there on the last day.

It would be a big turnaround but it's possible.

A good thrashing tonight and they'll be getting very nervous about that last game of the season. Also, I wouldn't write off West Brom with Big Sam at the helm, or even Sheffield Utd just yet. I do remember the latter performing a narrow escape at our expense 15 or 20 years ago, the slippery bastards...!

Fulham are 7 points behind them. If between now and the last game, they garner 4 (just 4) more points than the mags, then it's all on the last day showdown!

Chelsea and Man Utd, both away for Newcastle.

Burnley away and Sheff Utd at home for Fulham.

The gap could be down to 3 or 4 points after that.

The pressure is always worse if the mags only need a point the last game of the season.
