It's a bit scary that Joe Dodoo scored his 7th goal this season for Doncaster Rovers today. That's as many as our top scorers I know he wasn't 'made in Charlton' but he did hang out with us for a short while...
Daniel Kanu, 17, has signed a pro contract until 2024, having scored 31 goals already this season for the u-17's, u-18's and u-23's. That's a relief. I imagine he's already being tracked by Chelsea &co.
Great news. While I haven't enjoyed the Mason Burstow saga (it just underlines how small we are now) it's been aired elsewhere that a lot of the youngsters will see that the club didn't try and stand in the way of a good youngster and the chance to get into the top flight. I have no doubt if we had blocked Burstow's move and stuck him in the reserves to rot, convincing other youngsters to sign a pro contract would immediately become much harder, as would signing up promising youngsters like Burstow from lower league clubs. If we want to keep these players, the best way is to start climbing the league's, and that will take time. And some of the numpties on twitter who thought we should give a player like Burstow a 5m a year contract should start getting 2nd and 3rd jobs to help pay for the costs that implies. As all the senior players take a queick look and yell out 'Oi JJ, we need to change my contract in line with the nipper over there!'
Rick Everitt says in VOTV that we got £1.6m + add-ons for Burstow, which seems low for such a natural goalscorer. We got more than that for Bonne, who was not anywhere near as good, even at 24.
........who is now top scorer in Scotland's top flight. Not bad for a midfielder with a small club. I think he had one or two games for us where he played full-back, despite playing as a midfielder for the Academy teams.
