lazy journalism. Hoillet coming to us , plays similar position to Mackie so they assume some sort of deal struck (around the quoted compensation level). Can't see us selling Mackie with the likes of SWP still in the squad. Mackie will have his part to play next year , not necessarily from the start each week but he will feature.
Journo's version of pass the parcel... pass the gossip. If more than one say's it, it must be true!! Be crazy to lose someone like Jamie. He is improving every season since joining and I think there will be more to come.
Several reasons why this won't happen: 1. Mackie would never want it - he's an R now, and loves the shirt. 2. With the turmoil in Scottish football, he's pretty much going to be an established international for a good few years, and playing outside the Premier League won't keep him sharp and ready for this. 3. Who would swap a growing, investing team in the Premier League for the Venkys and lower league football? 4. It's Blackburn - would he want to constantly return to the ground - and the club - where he had his leg snapped eighteen months ago?
Good post -and Mackie is a vital squad player - may not be first team at the start of the season, but he'll shake things up if he's brought on late in a match, and when the season is older and we have injuries and, dare I say, a suspension of two, Mackie would fit seemlessly into the team.
It would be silly to sell Mackie now. I hold my hands up and admit that I really didn't think he could step up to the premiership. To be fair to me, I still don't think Mackie's skill is premiership quality, but he's proved that with heart and sheer determination you can be an effective player. When you watch Mackie play, he's the sort of player who brings a tear of pride to your eye, the sort of player you will always want to wear the hoops. But then there is a sad reality. It is unlikely that Mackie will reach the standard that means he is first choice for his position, and while we would all love for him to remain at the club and occasionally pull on the shirt, he deserves better. So I think we should keep him this season, but the best thing would be to let him move on next summer which will be best all round. We will hopefully make a few million and he will get to play regular football and become the hero of another set of fans, but he'll always be in our fond memories as someone who deserved to wear the hoops.
Can't say we'd be too keen to do business with Blackburn anyway. They were determined to sell Samba to anyone but us remember! I still have this feeling that Mackie will be off to pastures new though.
why go to a club that broke his leg , playing in the champ for a has been team , dont make sense , mackie is a ranger thru and thru .
Surely we are trying to build a strong SQUAD not just a team. Selling players like Mackie would completely defeat this objective!!
well that's good. they wouldn't play a guy they intended to sell. hopefully thatll put this non story to bed.
