Agree 100%. Honestly how long do people think Malky will stay IF he has said to Watford FC officials "I will consider leaving" or such like. The worst scenario for me is if Malky stays in the short term, but leaves when a better offer comes in. After all this speculation (which would be eradicated if MM said "I'm staying"), the worst thing would be for him to leave in a few weeks time. No word from MM means he is "considering other offers" for my money - one of these offers will lead to his departure in the short term. (I presume MM has more integrity than some). Do we think Watford FC are planning ahead, or do they think Malky will stay for the medium term (12 months)?
I think it is important that Malky doesn't say anything. We all remember what happened with Brendan Rodgers! Malky seems like a trustworthy, honest guy who says it as it is. Continuing with the cliches of the last statement, there is also no such thing as loyalty in football. Unfortunately for us, the manager will be treated in the same light as the players. For instance, we all accepted Danny Graham had to be sold to help balance the books. The same can be said for Malky. If offers come in that result in a considerable amount of compensation for the club, these offers have to be seriously considered. It is a shame that we work in short-term measures, but until we generate enough income and can also compete, it looks to be standard for the future.
A bit more C&P from the WO. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/9082796.Shearer_gamble_sees_Mackay_s_Cardiff_odds_lengthen/
Shearer the new favourite. If true, that would be one less relegation spot to concern ourselves about. Unfortunately I don't see it happening. Mackay isn't nailed-on to go to Cardiff, but I can't see Shearer getting it.
Can I clarify - Danny Graham's departure for £3.5m cash now, and Buckley's £1m were pretty good deals IMO. Malky MacKay leaving for approx £300k (over 2 years salary) compensation is totally the opposite. Malky has found and improved the value of players no end, I could almost call it a conveyor belt. If I had to put a value on him I would say £10m. Clearly we are not going to get that. That is why Malky leaving this Summer is such a disaster IMO. Safety is now my only target for next season. (And before you say it, I think he will go in the short term to Cardiff, Birmingham - it doesn't really matter).
That is right Elixir. Some news feeds have reported a compensation package of £130,000. This just isn't enough. What is the point in having a £10m rated player if the manager can't manage them? The importance of a good manager is imperative. Malky has shown in the past season that he has managed to get the best out of players. We were favourites for the drop for a reason. It makes you wonder why there aren't big transfer fees for managers as well as players.
Is that now any Monday this summer, or any day this summer? Sweet Jesus I have heard it all now, quoting that twat Moose from Talkshite just regurgitating more rubbish from the Internet....must be nailed on then..
Fixed, unless you were being sarcastic, which I expect you were! I don't think MM is the kind to tolerate that behaviour, though.
Although it is rather difficult to admit it, Cardiff and Malky are quite a good fit. I can see why they want him and why he might go. From their point of view he is of proven quality in this division , yet much cheaper than the other options bandied about (even if they have to pay compensation, his salary will be lower and he is not a prima donna.) He has skills in building a team , which is what they need at this moment, and has good contacts in the game for recruitment and getting in loanees. (He takes with him good knowledge of our own Academy players and recruitment targets---yipes!) . The type of football he plays will please their fans and get them on-side, deflecting criticism from the owners. From his point of view he will be going to a club which though in debt, appears to have patient owners with deeper pockets than our own. Sure, they have lost a lot of players recently, but this is really prudent clearing out of high cost players from a squad unsustainable in the Championship. This leaves a new manager with the opportunity to build his own team , a big attraction. Fewer dressing room cliques/ big ego's to deal with. In fact, probably the main attraction for him would be that he would be able to build a team in his own style, and KEEP it, to aim for a promotion push in a couple of seasons. At Watford he was building teams just to see them broken up every 6 months , and developing players but mainly for sale. At Cardiff he could do what every manager aspires to do--build a team of his own to challenge for promotion, develop players long term. He might well be thinking that would not be possible at Watford, and having kept us up, (job here done) it time to go.
Roger - spot on. Every football manager has his "window of opportunity" and I would forgive Malky if he felt it was time to go. When I look back at the situation in Summer 2008, I think Malky has been key in bringing us to where we are today. He has performed miracles in that time. I can see someone saying it is the best time for him to move on. Aidy should have gone in Summer 2008. Likewise GT was right to leave us in 1987. Malky is a hero in our books, I can't see him improving on our mid table status with the regime we have.

Afternoon Hornets Just thought I'd call in to see if you guys had any more original news on this subject (and to get away from the 'CCFC/WFC our club is bigger than your club' panto thats developing over the bridge) only to find that we are now a bankrupt club willing to breach FA rules with know-it-all fans (who, btw, I wish I knew because that would be impressive). Quite unbelievable!! In debt?...sure, which club isn't. Bankrupt?...got to love the media. One thing I think we can all agree on is that if either of our clubs were truly in touch with their respective fans, they would put out an official announcement either way and put an end to all this speculation and media circus and let us both get on with looking ahead to the new season, whatever that may bring. Plus in my case, having to deal with the latest Alan Shearer horror story (please god, no!!) Roger68: good post. KTF Hornets.
I'm not so sure the owners of Cardiff will be patient. Dave Jones got them to the play-offs and was shown the door. Anything less than promotion in 2012 will be a failure and the obvious head will be the manager, and I mean promotion without using the play-offs. Apart from that I have to agree with Roger. Cardiff is a better bet than Birmingham, there will be big expectations with both but Birmingham's will be far far greater.
I still think that MM can do better than Cardiff ! If he does well with our kids again (and there is no reason why not with our low expectations next season) He will be guaranteed a stab at a prem club! If he goes now and doesnt get promotion he will be sacked! Black mark on CV! I think a little more patience from the big man will pay off in 12 months time or even less!
i agree with Norway, patience will pay off for him...Cardiff don't seem to have that...if he has it, it should pay off. Our kids seem to push themselves harder and further for Malky, if we stay up, that will be a good enough achievement for him to land a plum job next season, if one becomes available!
This is exactly why people are fed up of Elixir's negative posting. Because MM hasn't firmly nailed his colours to our mast in a public statement then the negativity in him takes over and so started the posts about him 'angling for a move' which for someone who likes to put -FACT at the end of articles so people can't change his words is rather hypocritical as there is nothing to suggest MM wants to move.
