Might help soften the blow of the likely departure of Mark Sqwarkzer, our most accurate mystic with a 58% success rate.
Isn't July 1st the start of the transfer window ? So since Stekelenberg is still a Roma player (ie not on a free) we probably can't announce the transfer till then. Let's hope nothing goes wrong between now and then.
Didn't think there was any restriction on announcements, SuperBri, just that the player couldn't be registered before 1st July. And, (always being one for coincidences) that's what happened with Edwin van der Sar exactly 8 years ago today: "Manchester United have signed Dutch international goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar from Fulham for an undisclosed fee thought to be between two and three million pounds. The 34-year-old has agreed a two-year deal and will join the club on 1 July, providing he passes a medical. United have been looking for a new goalkeeper after releasing Roy Carroll at the end of May. Van der Sar, who has 95 international caps, moved to Fulham from Juventus for £5m in August 2001 and went on to make 153 appearances for the Cottagers. He was linked with a move to United in January but agreed a contract extension with Fulham until summer 2006 instead."
Very tidy bit of business. Hopes are steadily being raised- what can/will go wrong this time? Final day sale of Hangland and Berbatov?
Great signing. Although one look on the BBC website will tell you that everyone apparently thinks he's far too good to be at a club like Fulham. I guess we have gone from being a one man to a two man team.
A four year deal too, which I approve of. Keep the stability at the back. I'm going to miss Schwarzer, he's been a brilliant servant of this club. Just a shame we didn't get the chance to give him the standing ovation at the Cottage that he deserves.
Code: I must admit this signing really excites me, I genuinely think this could be a bigger signing than berb! I had him down to replace VDS at Man U but Roma snapped him up first. He was certainly in my top 5 keepers in the world back then. So if he gets back to that level under Jol again all I can say is what a coup!
What's the word? ...Stekelenburg
First game of the season headlines: Fulham were saved embarrassment by their 2 big stars Berbatov and Steklenburg today. Berbatov with a fine double hatrick (never passed the ball once and always moaned at the lack of quality in his team mates) and Stecklenburg save 8 penalties! Fulham should count their blessings!
Great goalkeeper though, great signing. Possibly another player for Man U from their London feeder club? Sorry, im feeling a little sarcastic this morning!
Opens up a whole new world of possibilities for Lawro though, he now only has to say Fulham have Berbatov maybe once a month. Although this does rather assume he's actually heard of him after all he is a Dutchman who played in Italy - unlikely he will have crossed Lawro's radar. I can imagine a comment something along the lines of Shearer's when Ben Afra started at Newcastle.
