True Luke but I think he has the strength of character to do it. He won,t last as long as Ferguson because he's 63 or so but you will be up there challenging again. The thrashing of Spain told me the Dutch would do well this WC despite another wanting me to "Do me a favour."
Van Gaal certainly showed a Mourinho like determination to scrape through with boring football against Costa Rica. I think he'll be a success in this league but if the Costa Rica game is any indication of the kind of football he'll play against far weaker teams then I'm glad we didn't get him.
So far it certainly looks like HIAG was right about him. There's no doubt he's done well with the Netherlands, and it's very hard to doubt his ability to set up a team at this point. The one reason I didn't want him was that I felt that with his age and reputation, he might have trouble with player power. But given his success and Man U's crap year last year, the players are likely to buy what he's selling for some time.
Somebody in the BBC gossip column today describes Van Gaal as a genius and the right signing for Man U but for how long can he work there? You all took the mick out of this thread and I really don't know why.
You should be the one drying your eyes Spurm, what was it you said after Holland's thrashing of Spain" Do me a favour?"
Exactly. We know as well as anyone that being good at one job or at international does not an automatic success make
Low has never achieved anything at club level either. His predecessor, Klinsmann, was relatively unsuccessful at Bayern but relatively successful for Germany and the USA. In short, i don't think a semi final or even WC win makes you a shoe-in as a successful club manager. In fact, nothing makes you a shoe-in as a success in your next job as a football manager
"In short, i don't think a semi final or even WC win makes you a shoe-in as a successful club manager" A useful guide for how a manager may do in UEFA tournaments though.
