Cannot keep giving teams a leg up and expecting to just eventually grow into games. That is 4 away games in a row we have been beaten and quite frankly not really looked very competitive. Poor marking from set plays again and trying to be pretty against a strong physical side
A team in trouble, at the foot of the table, gets fired up for a local derby. Sadly, we couldn't handle it.
Horrible. Outfought by a poor team. TDB worked very hard, as did some members of the defence. But unprofessional by Bachmann IMHO and Steve Martin had the last laugh with the final ‘goal’.
I think he had to call a foul before the third goal. Dreadful decision. Or lack of decision, I should say.
Sadly game was well over by then. I hope the manager and players don't just blame the officials otherwise there would be a need to worry. Need to look at our own game - not just in this one but over the season away from home generally.
If you watched FGR or Luton playing to the Rob Edwards style, you would know that he likes the ball to the far post from corners, and he will have players very quickly close their opponents down. Today we witnessed both. We have defenders who cannot seemingly defend well from corners, and because of the speed we were closed down, we looked cumbersome and slow. Many of our passes were intercepted because we telegraphed slowly where they were going.
You would also have noticed that we have no-one who knows how to take a corner - either that or Chak is a bully and won't let anyone else take them. I mean, it's not rocket science - corners can, and should, be mixed up - short, near post, far post, middle of the goalmouth, in-swinger, out-swinger - but all of his never seem to get past the first defender. Opposition defenders must be laughing behind their hands when they see him line up to take one, simply because they know where the ball is going to go. I'm sure that most on here can remember the days when we'd get pilloried in the press for playing 'long balls' - but that didn't stop us playing them, and, more often than not, scoring. Today Luton did exactly that against us - whilst we fannied around trying to play out from the back and failed miserably. Again...
All our defeats away from home have come from teams below us in the table, until next Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the first five minutes we had two chances to score and they nearly scored the own goal of the century but after they scored totally different game Playing three at the back is NOT WORKING Tom has to bite the bullet and play a conventional 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 or 4 - 3 - 3 and start winning the midfield battles and provide some service to our forward/forwards
I think basically they were too strong and physically. Apparently Bachmann played with an injury which didn’t help We obviously need to improve the away form to help us capitalise on the very strong home performances otherwise you become too reliant on it . We seem to defend and attack well at the Vic so why such a contrast ?
