I agree with your last sentence, but in response to your first sentence, I think you’re letting Ramsdale off the hook too easily there.

Losing Saliba and Tomiyasu isn’t why he gave the ball to Carlos Alcaraz in the first 40 seconds against Southampton at home. It’s not why he let Bowen’s near post shot go in because of his flimsy wrists to make it 2-2 against West Ham during the title run. It’s not why his positioning and spatial awareness was poor to let KdB score a fairly average shot at The Etihad during the title decider. It’s not why he let Haaland’s shot roll through his hands. It’s not why he parried a shot back into the danger zone to let Estupinan score against us, allowing de Zerbi to knee slide on the touch line in front of our fans.

I maintain that the decision to replace Ramsdale was not the wrong thing to do. And most people were happy with Raya coming in. The issue is he’s performed worse than expected and people didn’t predict that.

In retrospect, Vicario would have been a superb option for us, but who would have said that at the time? I remember Spurs fans fuming that they lost out on Raya and were underwhelmed with Vicario coming in initially.

No-one could have predicted the chasm between both goalkeepers thus far.

What I will say is if Raya’s form doesn’t pick up soon, it wouldn’t surprise me if we go in for another goalkeeper in the Summer.
