The showing by City last night makes me ask why Luton, who were playing non-league football about 10 years ago, can resurrect themselves enough during that time span to make us look second best on every level? Very little investment has been made on stadium improvement for the Premiership as it is still an awful blight on the landscape and when you consider that 10,000 is a packed house it makes you wonder what the heck have we been doing in the same time? Ashton Gate has been brought into the 21st century but the team's ambitions have not reached those heady heights. Each and every season is a close mirror image of the last with promises beyond belief coming from both the boardroom and the bench that this time out will be better and rewarding. If indeed the stadium is up to snuff for the rise to the top then why on earth does the squad rarely live up to the hype put out by the people that pull the strings? I fully understand that our season is all but over but even when there is a slight chance to improve the squad we appear to look in the wrong places for diamonds in the rough rather than using the same way as successful clubs. Neither Cornick or Mehmeti look up for the fight and we can't use them as power coming off the bench when we need a boost because I think they are typical City players who don't do as much as their reputation demands. We will be getting the same PR hype next season and the wheels will come off the happy wagon before it really gets going just like most, if not all, campaigns during living memory. Indeed we are lucky to have a willing owner such as SL but I have serious doubts as to whether he has the desire to take us to the supposed promised land that can make or break a lot of clubs if they don't have their ducks in a row. I can't see us getting our ducks lined up in the Championship, yet alone for the Premiership, based on our poor history of success which tends to indicate more of the same boring football for the foreseeable future. Bristol City have a good supporter base combined with a pretty decent academy and stadium and still we continue to tread the same predictable path to almost anywhere except the place where the regulars want to be and deserve.

I studied the game last night and paid special attention to headers in Luton's penalty area and I can't remember one that went our way. Poor crosses combined with lack of receiving height will never get a goal, and until we get that type of player to consistently cause issues for the opponent's defence we will continue to fall down in the goals for department. The search for the right shaped pegs is continuous but we seem to consistently fall short (get it?) in finding a prolific scorer with his head. We used to get a good few goals via Aden Flint when he came forward for corners, and I think we need to find a similar player to help us move upwards.
