That is absolutely horrific football. O'Nien, Patto, Cirkin and Jobe at huge risk of conceding there. I can't understand why the tactical instructions are so rigid, we clearly need to change that, even temporarily and earn our right to play like that again later in the game.
It’s not nonsense though. Has he been a stand out performer for us this season? No. Would we have been any worse off this season had he not stepped on the pitch? Probably not. He never looks like he wants the ball. You never see him being vocal. Bellingham constantly drops deep to pick up the ball from the defenders because he doesn’t want it. I understand he’s a local lad so many will defend him til their last breath but the reality is he’s just not that good. He’s a half decent championship midfielder who’s been looked poor in his new role and looks nothing like a captain. Who said RLB gave him captaincy? I’d be astounded if a manager brand new into the role got to pick who the captain would be.
