Yeah, I think so too. I waited until the Beeb site closed before actually looking at the alternatives and jumped straight to Ja before I even knew whether people would be there. I signed up to here when Ja went down and ended up using both before getting used to this site and eventually preferring it.
Hi Notso, I feel a right idiot now! I have mastered it by accident but hey ho I got there in the end! I wish the grandchildren lived nearer to sort me out on this thing..... There is another question I would love help with: Live Streaming. Sometimes you whizz kids give a link & it works well. I can't believe that I can sit at home watching my beloved Spurs live when they're not on TV. Fantastic. BUT, other times the link urges me to download all sorts of 'stuff' of which I am very wary and I get no picture at all. Often I get those awful 'congratulations, you have won a prize' rubbish which I ignore. So, can anyone give any advice to a non whizz kid on the best way to stream please, please, please?
I find the easiest Maggie is to google Wizi Wig click football then scroll down until you find the Spurs game. Click on that and you will find a number of streams those marked EN have an English commentary. It's handy to download the Sopcast player before you start but do this out of match times as it get's busy then. Hope that helps.
Thanks Spurf, I tried Wizi Wig last Saturday as recommended on the match thread but it didn't work for me. I will try sopcast though. Thanks again.
Maggie, is that a cheap dig at my recommendations! nah if you have a good connection then as spurf says get sopcast, most of these flash streams are crap and you have to click the "x" on about 3 ads before the actual stream plays.
My experience with Sopcast is utter failure, i've never seen a match yet. Its downloaded, but every time i go to select anything a window appears telling me to download it again! Its faeces as far as I'm concerned! So I've found a site that has between 10 and 20 links to the game, why it varies I don't know. Anyway, half are Sopcast channels , the rest are Browser. I start at the top and just click through them till i find the best picture, some are unwatchable, and some can be really good. Allow 20 mins before ko. Ads are a pain, sometimes big X's open the damn thing! some have no x to get rid at all it seems. Just close the tab and go back to the next one in the list. Keep an eye for other tabs appearing, usually a betting site , get rid as soon as you see one. http://www.footballstreaming.info/streams/todays-links/ Just bookmark the page, and bring it up on matchday...there you go!...or voulez vous soixante neuf du pap! as the French would say.
Definitely best to have a copy of Sopcast, most other media streamers suck (having tried a lot with very poor results). As regards finding the links then I use http://www.livefootballol.tv/ and there is for most games a multimedia thread on http://spursornothing.co.uk/index.php. From experience the "Bloodzeed" and "Yes" channels are usually of a good quality although they are less frequently available. Bloodzeed has a dedicated Twitter page (spurs fan if I remember correctly).
Sopcast...I just cannot get it to work, I'm obviously doing something wrong but I'm not that computer literate, I don't understand half the jargon in the windows that pop up.
New version of Sopcast takes away some of the headaches. Hyperlinking is fixed. Defaults have been set in stone. If you have sound but no picture, you'll need a new media player. VLC is the media player that plays EVERYTHING. Sopcast has the best quality audio and video and, being true peer-to-peer, the stream cannot be shut down by the EPL police during the game.
Good point as regards VLC, although I think regardless of if you want to use Sopcast or not a copy of VLC is a must for every PC. To the other Sopcast users, do you find that if you get in "early" on a cast that you get a stronger feed, what I mean is it stays more stable at a higher rate, whereas if you come in a couple of minutes after kick off you can struggle?
Nope, my feed usually loads within a minute whether it's 5 mins before kick off or coming in a few minutes late. Mind you, I only ever use Bloodzeeds feed which is fantastic quality (he's also a YID so always prioritises them!), unfortunately he told me on twitter this will be his last year streaming as he has other commitments YES! isn't a bad alternative, the quality isn't as good as Bloodzeeds but definitely watchable. But as I said, I always get connected quickly, I am actually registered with Sopcast though, I don't log in as a guest, so maybe that helps?
I do have an account as well so shouldn't be an issue, maybe I'm just further away! I agree though Bloodzeed is the best quality about to the point where it's as good as if not better than some TV.
I was just about to ask where are you based Yeah, the quality is so clear it really is like watching it on TV. Only about 30-40 seconds behind real time too... Alot of others are about 2 minutes at least. Which is why I'm so gutted he'll pack it in next season... I'll keep paying him compliments on twitter, I've also joined/ backed him up in having banter with other fans (mainly City ones... They're arrogant, thick tw*ts on twitter!) so maybe I can use my powers of Yid persuasion to make him only stream Spurs game from next season
It was! (still never worked, i couldn't get past the Homepage...I kid you not! . When I clicked on anything, a window full of Swahili would appear...binary files???...fack orf!), seeing as Inda has kindly said there's a new version, I shall start from scratch, I've just deleted everything about it, even out of the recycle bin! I shall start again! When we're online together and you've got some time, would you talk me through it?
In the US, I've eventually gotten overall quite satisfactory results with http://atdhenet.tv/ I imagine it isn't available across the water, but it may help to remember you need a means to watch it, meaning an updated media player and/or updated browser. (Try Firefox or Safari as well as IE). Your connection is also a kind of tube with two ends. If your end has a connection speed that's too slow it won't work, and if their end is overloaded and or otherwise inadequate to push out the stream, you'll get choppy or unwatchable results. There was also a learning curve as I found out which things I had to click and which ones were spam. Still, at this point, I'm probably getting a pretty good show 90% of the time, and it's improved a lot in the last year or so. So: if you keep trying and remembering what you've learned, you can probably get something to work, I think.
Take care when you download it that you are on a legit Sopcast site, there are a lot of hangers on who use it to get their message across. As redwhiteandermblue says you need decent power on your computer to get good results.
Mmm, media player??? don't know, Firefox yes and all the Adobe is up to date. Its a decent make 4yr old widescreen laptop with nothing on it really, its not full of games and music, its only used by me and I use it for not much more than this lark, so I'd be surprised if my equipment wasn't powerful enough. Adthenet is over here, it comes up in the list on that site a linked before, it is one of the better ones, but isn't always there. Spurf, how am I supposed to tell the difference between the legit one and a **** one?
