Neither Ale or Sandro can play every game this season, Luongo ought to be the ideal replacement for either one.
When Luongo plays for Australia he tends to play further forward and he doesn't score a great deal of goals but does provide assists - particularly getting to the line and picking out a player. Perhaps playing a 4 1 4 1 formation allows both Fer and Luongo to play and "express themselves". Opens us up defensively but we have hardly been impenetrable to this point anyway..
I met an ex-Wycombe player who's Aussie and is also one of Massimo's best friends. He said Massimo was feeling negatively about Ramsey pulling him off in the latter stages of games and didn't know why it was happening. It sounds like he's getting the same bad luck now. The ex-Wycombe player also said that Massimo is actually quite a good goal scorer but it just hasn't happened at QPR so far. I agree with Rodney, he is a key signing from the Summer. Yet I would say Hall has proven to be our best signing, in my opinion.
I would play him on the right instead of Phillips. Earlier in the season it was his driving runs and tenacity that created a couple of goals from this position. Whereas Phillips seems to have a lack of interest since the transfer window closed.
