In my exiled and (relatively) impoverished situation I've not seen Gills this season - something that should be remedied on 29th - and so can't really comment on his actual performances.

But from what I've read it seems that he has a talent that probably needs honing further, and might be appreciated better if he were allowed a more free role in the midfield, which would mean other players filling in on the left if his did move infield. That of course is a matter of a team plan. As I see it from the comments posted, as things stand at the moment if his role is supposed to on the left and he moves inside on a relatively frequent basis leaving the left side open then either
a) he's not playing according to a team plan, or
b) the player that's supposed to be filling in isn't playing according to the team plan or
c) the team plan is either wrong or inexistant

I just hope he's playing at Morecambe so that I can get an idea of what's going on.

Surely you must have seen the goal highlights on BBCiplayer ? - If you haven't - well worth looking at the Toequay game - shows a great run by Rooney.
You might be upnorth - but NO need to miss out on ANY of the goals - get it sorted.
 
Was it a great run? He seemed to have the freedom of Plainmoor, no Torquay player put a challenge in!!
 
How many times have you seen Weston/S.Payne/Oli run in that much space and produce absolutely nothing from it?

If Rooneys namesake Wayne created that goal, everyone would be praising its brilliance.
 
I agree the final pass was a good one, but the way everybody is praising the run makes it seem as good as Mardonna's against England in the '86 World Cup
 
From a technical viewpoint it was a fantastic run. The way he cut across the line of the chasing defender to stop him being able to make a tackle was straight out of the coaching textbook. Just because he didn't beat five players doesn't make it a bad run.

I take it that you didn't agree with the description of Rooney's run. Well, as Gills79 has indicated, Rooney was obviously giving some thought about his line of direction - and was able to brush off the ' challenge ' of the ONLY Torquay player who bothered to try to emulate Rooney's run ( great or otherwise. ) You should know that I am not the first in line to shower Rooney with praise, but I do not wish to be negative towards him ( despite the fact that he frustrates me too often .) I believe that his extended place in the side has helped in his development - long may it continue. UTG

Remedied. I had internet problems from the end of last week (which even prevented me getting my prediction in, not that it would have mattered as I was going for a draw), until a couple of days ago, and then working 12 hour days the past couple of days, and under those circumstances catching up on the goals wasn't a priority. I do usually watch them though, please be assured.

I agree, great run, and he did look up to see what options were available. But I get the impression that he's not always that reliable. And perhaps the Torquay defence could have closed him down a bit better, but they were very much on the back foot, and at the speed he was going any mis-timed tackle would almost certainly earned at least a yellow card.

What also impressed me was (I think) Nouble's control and shot in the play that led up to the penalty.

And while I'm on penalties, as Rooney seems to be the chosen taker at the moment, I hope he's got other choices of shot in his repertoire. That one was, from hazy memory, in the same direction and height as the one that went in off the inside of the post. Confirmation or correction welcomed.

Exactly my thoughts on the penalty, when I saw the highlights, although I just feel he has little bit more self confidence and a lucky charm (previous penalty) when taking them, so personally I would leave him to continue taking the penalties for now. I mean this in a totally respectful manner when I say that, I just sometimes feel that with Kedwell having a more mature attitude, I just wonder if he is a bit more self concious when taking them, thus putting unnecessary pressure on himself to succeed.

Unless I'm mistaken the control and shot leading to the penalty was Kuffour.

No you're right.

Even better news as he's likely to be around for a bit longer, although I guess anything can happen on shorter term loans.

On which point, did we only get him for 3 months because he wanted away from the South West and somewhere closer to London and we were prepared to shop-window him so that Bristol can try and sell him on in January?
 
I think it was a look see and get him in January if all went well, trouble is if it goes too well someone else might get him. :emoticon-0108-speec
