Nobody said it was the only motivation to play better, thats just being plain silly. Some, not all players do try that bit harder, and sometimes that can work against, like RVP's first game. Yes he's proud to represent his country, but players have used these summer tournys as a shop window for years, why the surprise now?
because they are Croats...according to AllstarCroats. im not saying there is bias there..well ok i am.
Gerrard must love playing for Liverpool, judging by his performances in every single tournament he's ever appeared in...
Pretty sure. Besides, let's be honest, the only way Gerrard could have been more dire for England is if he was Kieron Dyer.
Same can be said of Rooney and Lampard and their respective clubs, you might be on to something there!
Against Spain, didn't Modric play in the middle of the three in a 4231, quite high up the field. I still think we waste him in a 442 and Parker and Sandro are a better 2 than Croatia have got.
Got a link TMT? And no. 30 isn't enough. If an unproven Eden hazard is 32-35 or whatever it was, luka modric is worth a lot more. As it stands, letting him go might actually cause us a lot of problems. With the euros, we obviously need as much as we can, to buy someone who's likely to be over inflated. But my concern is going to be the wages when finding someone who's his replacement. The fans are unlikely to settle for someone unknown, and anyone who's played at the euros, (such as moutinho) might come with huge wage demands, as well as a whopping transfer fee!
It's in the BBC gossip column Roo. I'd prefer to get rid of an unhappy player. Van der Vaart proved that we don't have to spend high to buy quality so we could get two in for the price of one with the sale of Modric. I agree with you about the wage demands etc.....it's all gone crazy.
I agree with you. but he was unhappy a year ago and still did a decent job this season for me, VDV was a stroke of luck. to get world class talent like him, at a decent age, for 8 mill, and a reported £44k p/w... that was ridiculous. there might possibly be other players around like him after this tournament, but we cannot rely on trying to find another deal like that. and if we continue to not help ourselves by leaving our transfers till late on, we'll miss who we need anyway! Two targets we've already lost out on - Marin and Marvin. (sound like a comedy duo, don't they? ) But when losing Modric, he's gotta be replaced with someone very good. very good will cost money. if we don't get it right, we'll be missing something massive in the middle of the park.
to be fair, marin had good reasons to go to chelsea. as things stand with Spurs, he'd have seen competition for places in his position/s. he's be competing with the likes of Bale, Modric and VDV, due to his versatility. - where at chelsea, he's seen as malouda's replacement and would probably stand a better chanceof a starting place in other areas too. oh, and lets not forget that chelsea won the champions league and can pay a fortune in wages.
Well, we got a few gooduns under Commoli. Unfortunately we also got a lot of overpriced ****e. VDV was a goodun. I don't think Harry and Levy worked well together with regards to transfers tbh. Harry was probably asking for Joe Cole etc and Levy was probably trying to buy 21yr olds.
