As an Englishman in Scotland I benefit from a lot of racist banter and I love it. It might be something to do with the width of and lack of chips on my shoulders!!!!

Perhaps so, but the only way you can have consistency across the board is in a fairly run yet totalitarian state.

The only thing we can ask of the FA is consistency within English football. And the FA's decision over Suarez will stand or fall depending on whether they can show that they are consistent across English football as far as things that are perceived to be racist are concerned.
 
I know H ! tis one of many reasons why I want to shift to Canada , I have worked there on a contract before ,and would love to go permanent staff there! There isnt racism there!and its a hell of a lot more friendly , even if the finance angle is nowhere near as good!

And as a Scot who has spent most of his life in either England or Australia, I eventually found the best course of action was to laugh it off or make light of it. Lack of the hoped for reaction tended to bore even the most aggressive of twats and they soon stopped.

Living back in Scotland, I have to say I haven't experienced anything like I have elsewhere. Still speaking with a strong Aussie accent, the locals tend to be intrigued but friendly - thankfully as my fighting days are well and truly over ;)

As an Aussie accent in Scotland though you'll always be an ally against the auld enemy, funny how the world unites against us english but you're spot on, in reality there are very few instances of true racism and where encountered ignoring it is the best way to frustrate the aggressor.....
 
Indeed BB I go for the ignore , cant hit them here ,coz you leave you self open to litigation that would break you !
I have had it that some one has sabotaged my work then gone to a supervisor , fortunately I saw it happen and grabbed another boss to witness it , Nothing happened to him and I was told to be careful in my work ! !! Months later on annual review I was told that I do well and need to slow down!!!
 
I do not buy the fact Suarez did not know what he was saying wasn't bad. Whatever word he used to Evra he said it 11 times. Having discovered Evra's reaction to the word being used he obviously continued to use it, so the fact some people are saying he didn't use the word in a derogitary way baffles me.

I have some sympathy with the language barrier, as has been proven the word means something else in his language. What i will say is i think an 8 match ban is absolutely correct. What i don't want to confuse here is the validity of the guilty verdict and the punishment. Whilst i have some reservation as to what grounds he was found guilty (although it should be pointed out only the 3 man panel knows the ins and outs of the case, when the documents are released we will have a better idea of what he was convicted on) the fact that he was found guilty i think the punishment fits the crime. Anyone found guilty of racism should get at least 8 games. There is no place for it in football and when you consider what others have got for physical abuse (Cantona 9 months, Di Canio 11 matches) 8 games seems about fair.

I finally make the point that Liverpool could not have handled this any worse and are in danger of becoming a complete laughing stock in my eyes. I have to say whilst good for Liverpool Dalglish's return has done nothing but harm for football in general and while he may not like the guilty verdict he should put his efforts into the proper channel's and wait for the report and come out and put together a constructive case of appeal rather than get involved with this, misguided at best, show of support.
 
Disagree with you almost entirely Chris (but thats what these forums are for) Until the documents of that 3 man panel are released we wont know , and I cant see the FA realeasing them can you ! No one else heard what he said ,even Evra allegedly at the beginning wasnt sure! Whole thing stinks of victimisation in the name of being seen to act tough on racism in uk football , Now the Terry incident comes hot on the heels and the Fa to remain with any credibility have to give one of their own pampered sons a similar or worse ban!! Evra seems to change his viewpoint on a daily basis ( ie being told what to say by his own clubs lawyers )
How can name calling get a ban worse than maliciously breaking a players leg? How can name calling be taken so out of context ,there is banter in all levels of football are we going to ban then speaking ,of course you try and wind an opponent up ,get him hot headed and prone to making an error , Germans and portugese did it to becks and roo !
I await with real interest of how the FA are going to deal with the Terry case and come out the other side with any credibility! Terry was guilty Suarez was not!

I agree with your point about Liverpool's handling of the case.

I'm quoting this because I really question how good Dalglish has been for Liverpool since his comeback. He won a series of league games when there was absolutely no pressure on, blew 70% of the Torres windfall on a player no better than Danny Graham, and unless he can pull a domestic cup out of the bag he looks on course to only just beat Rafa Benitez's worst season. I'm not betting against him sorting that club out, but so far his comeback has been ordinary even by Liverpool's standards since he first left.
 
Norway - indeed it is what these forums are for. Although i'm not entirely disagreeing with you. In cases where a player has been racially abused i think 8 games is a fair punishment. And i will not change my mind that Suarez knew whatever he was saying was angering Evra but that does not mean he knew it was racist. If i was to call some a b****** it would anger them but it is not racist. All i'm saying is Liverpool have handled this badly and that 8 games if a fair punishment for people found guilty of racism.

However, on the point of Suarez's guilt i am sceptical based on the evidence we know about so far. However before coming down one way or another i will wait to see what the report says. And i think the FA will publish a report because i think they have to. Having made such a damming statement about a player's professionalism, character and integrity the FA would look even more of a laughing stock than Liverpool did now if they did not disclose everything used to come to the guilty verdict
 
Which is why I would be very surprised if they did publish it <laugh> Also there is a fair chance that if suarez was in the wrong the LFC may try to gag publication of the report! Personally all I think suarez is guilty of is getting under evras skin and colour creed or race doesnt come into it , just one player winding up another ,this isnt a new thing! Soon players wont be able to speak , wont be able to touch or tackle , wont be able to look at someone the wrong way , where does it end?
One things for sure not for the greater good of football or football fans!
 
Exactly Norway, glad we can disagree on here but the fact to me is that Suarez was not being racist, did not use a racist term yet supposedly has been banned for racism. If I were Liverpool I'd do exactly what they're doing and stand by my player, its not standing up for racism but standing up for common sense and justice. I await with interest to see Terry get his 8 match + ban but may be waiting a long time as he's one of the in crowd, personally I'd give him a 4 year ban from international football in addition to a season out of domestic. I consider myself a far more rational being than Evra and I've used the racist card with the police here probably wrongly, in the knowledge that a racism accusation has to be followed up in a much harder way than simple harassment, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that in this case that is what has occurred. I await with interest the FA publication of permitted verbage for use on the football field. In the meantime I abhor the racist treatment of Suarez by the FA and those on here calling for his punishment, a lack of understanding of a minority and adverse treatment based on race is whats occurring here, it's victimization of the Hispanic community and it gets my goat!!!!
 
To continue to use a racially based term when you know it's causing a reaction i.e. winding Evra up, is not racist? It may be a term of endearment in some circumstances in the Spanish speaking world, but it was not being used in that way continually against Evra. I am no fan of either player, they are both whinging cheats as far as I am concerned, but Suarez used a racially based term in a abusive manner - it makes it racial abuse.

I am totally with H on this and the way Liverpool have reacted just stinks - it tells us that whatever a player does they will support them.
 
Really W-y !! So is it was say the Prince who called an opposing play a little boy in ghanaian and wound up that player , you would a) expect him to get an 8 week ban
and b) you would expect WFC not to stand by him !

The problem with your argument wy is that it is not a racially based term!!! It was used to wind up as it got a reaction same way I'd call somebody a short arse, lightweight, prima donna or the like. The misunderstanding of the tongue of the issuer of the windup is the problem here allied to the garlic munching surrender monkeys attitude. Now that is racist against the French but does it harm? I've got a frog sitting 7ft from me and there is no problem with it, maybe thats because hes rugby and not footie....
