There is a difference between the law and it's application..but the law is the law and disregarding it because it's an ass is a very dangerous path to tread. Where do you stop? You can make as many excuses as you like about not having enough prisons but it is a spurious argument, people don't get sent to prison for that sort of offence - but make them do community service in a bright green jacket!

Since when have policemen been politicians? - he probably did not act because no law was being broken.

Well remembered, pompey - he certainly was. He spent 3 months in Barlinnie for assualting John McStay on the football field. Interestingly, his crime was considered more heinous than two previous charges for which he was simply fined - headbutting a police officer and striking a member of the public (who was on crutches at the time!)

Mind you, I suppose Scottish law could be different.

Maybe it was the fact, that he'd done it before, which I didn't know till now, was the deciding factor.

Surprised that he didn't get sent down for headbutting a cozzer though.

there is a huge difference between verbal abuse, and racial abuse. If you've never suffered from the latter, you might not understand the difference, and i know you've said you have been, but obviously not in a particularly serious way.

Meanwhile, Stan Collimore gave as good as he got on Twitter last night, quite rightly. After receiving a load of racially abusive tweets from a member of the public, he went to the police. That guy will be arrested, i'm sure...and he's a trainee lawyer...well done Stan!

The cats out the bag and now everyone and everything is going to be shouting racial abuse! and you know the ones that will suffer the most ? will be the ones that actually needed protecting !! and no one will listen or care! Cry wolf too many times and see what happens ,it started last night in the oldham game!

and you have no proof whatsoever of that. The guy was in tears FFS!! Nobody deserves being racially abused, it should be a zero tolerance policy, and well done the FA for making it so!

What? - so some black lad claims being racial abused and no one listened and because of that he gets stabbed? So he gets stabbed because he claims to be abused? So the argument is that if he does not complain, he will not get stabbed? I think i have heard just about everything to justify racial abuse as being nothing as political correctness as I can...

This is not a trend it's the law and if a few idiots get prosecuted for breaking the law then so be it...they have the choice

And all laws in Norway are perfectly defined and immaculately observed?

I would suggest that there are laws in every country that need more than revisiting.

what a load of bollocks! Sorry Norway, but really...if a black kid gets stabbed because of racism, he won't be 'playing the racism card', he will be a victim of racial physical abuse. Everyone will listen, because nobody tolerates (except you and Liverpool FC it would seem) racism in any form, and long may that continue.

Footballers are humans like everyone else..do they deserve to be PERSONALLY abused in any way?

Sure they will take banter like stick or booing as part of the job but fans would moan like hell if a player turned out and called them a rude name...

Not meaning this as a joke - but an 8 match ban + £40,000 fine? Or something more akin to Terry's probable punishment - a £2500 fine?

At least it sounds like Liverpool FC will come to the party - hopefully ban the scum for life.
