I actually agree with that, when they had Rooney,Ronaldo and Tevez,it was similar to our Beardsley Barnes and Aldridge. There was no striker as such that played on the shoulder of the last defender ie a Torres,it was three forward thinking players that rotated.
Sometimes that works better.I reckon Kenny is trying to replicate that with Suarez,Carroll and Downing seeing as he lost Torres similarly to when he lost Rush in 1987.

Perhaps it is because the quality of United sides has been decreasing for at least 3 seasons. Last season you would not have won the Premiership by your own devices had both Chelsea and Arsenal not imploded and City not been so cautious. With hindsight there are a lot of similarities with Liverpool's decline. United were/are good enough but only just and you look to the past to justify your opinion of your supposed strengths.

    I agree with that.
Man Uniteds central midfield is nowhere near as strong as it once was during the Keane era.He has not be been properly replaced. This is what allowed Scholes to do his stuff and compensated for his inability to tackle. They've always had strength in the wide areas, but sometimes having strength in the wide areas is useless if your up against teams that have players that are in one word...destructive.They have one sole aim and that is to badger the opposition midfield and not allow them to get into any rhythm.Lucas is a prime example. If Roy Keane was in Man Uniteds midfield,he would not allow that to happen as it would be him that would be doing the badgering. The nearest they had to it was Hargreaves but he's was too injury prone.

No chance, Carroll can't play anywhere other than striker whereas Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez could play anywhere in a front 3.

Andy Carroll can in fact drop deep and do a ''Berbatov'' and provide flick ons for the other two to run off him.So that last point is in fact a fail.

I agree with you somewhat for the first time ha. Although United's other positions can make up for our midfield weakness I would rather Sir Alex did strengthen the midfield and I'd like it if he made two signings:

    1. A midfield enforcer, similar to Roy Keane. Someone like Lass Diarra for example.

    2. A creative outlet. Sneijder would be beyond perfect and we're still linked with him, not sure it will happen though.

Carroll will need to buck his thoughts on fitness and mobility before we start thinking of him dropping deeper.

You can compensate so much for your central midfield weakness to a large extent.
However you will be found out and have been found out, every sides flaws are exposed.Liverpools lack of natural width and them not having a deep-lying play-maker/tempo setter cost them points in away games last season.Kenny has addressed this. However I reckon he still has more holes to plug ie two being at left back and centre back.
I still believe until Ferguson sorts out Man Uniteds central midfield they will not win the champions league, they may win the premier league as they are possibly the best flat track bullies in the league bar Chelsea and due to their overall consistency. But better sides will badger and harass in the central midfield area and expose the weakness and thats all Barcelona did.

Why are you arguing? 2 of the players you mention are no longer with United! KPR was agreeing with my point about the quality of the United side.

Whilst Carroll will always be considered as a striker he does bring good link-up skills into his play. Newcastle fans were lauding his ability before we bought him and from the litle that we have seen so far it would appear that he has an inate ability to find Suarez with both his head and by his passing.

On current and recent form i think you'll find he is ONE of the best around.

He just scooped player of the tournament at the 'Copa America' and was in the winning team. Don't forget there were some seriously talented players in that tournament.

He also made your defence (and plenty of other teams) like like a bunch of garden gnomes!

A prime example was the game against City at home.Carroll and Suarez were both dropping off and winning posession in the central midfield and Carroll went centrally whereas Suarez went wide.It was those two and Raul Mereiles coming from different angles that created the space for Dirk Kuyts second goal.

First off Rooney is better than Tevez. Its not even a debate.

You have all seen both players at the same club in the same game and Rooney almost always came out the better. Its all well and good Tevez being part of a team that focuses all its play through him but when hes played as a team player he is just an average joe who likes to run around. At United he was a member of a team, at City he is the team.

So as many people have pointed out, Tevez is better than Suarez and I agree. It also means Rooney is better than Suarez. Yes Rooney hasnt cut it at International level.......neither has Gerrard or any English player in recent years.

In the football that matters, domestic and European, Rooney has cut it. Hes scored in Finals, Semi Finals, Big league games, title winning goals the lot. Regardless of your dislike to say Suarez is better is just bitterness.

Evidence, reality and facts suggest otherwise.

Let me help you out a little here.

Man Utd won the PL title. Not because Chelsea, Arsenal or Man City ( YOU ARE HAVING A ****ING LAUGH ) were **** but because we were better. Its not hard to work this out. I believe they have a table that sets the winners from the losers......The Barclays Premier League Table......yeh thats the name...........we came top!

The way I see it is We have won 4 of the last 5, we were unlucky not to win 5 of the last 5 and it really did take a superb run of form for Chelsea to win the title in 2009/10.
