Suarez is not a cheat - Brendan Rodgers is a decent guy - Liverpool are a fantastic football club! Just needed to say all that as I feel that this thread is being derailed by sensationalists! We all love discussing contentious decisions and ex players/managers during our post match pint, but by the time we get home and watch the highlights common sense hopefully kicks in! Unfortunately it seems some on here just won't let things go!
I don't think anyone really thinks Suarez, in this instance, has been more of a cheat than most goal hungry strikers. It's the Liverpool fans' defensive and ironic reaction that is amusing. No doubt it will resurface when some of them feel an injustice has occurred in a match either involving them or one of their perceived rivals, which currently accounts for over half the league so shouldn't be too long!
You started off well....but then lapsed back into the usual stuff. All fans are defensive. All fans feel injustice about decisions. Not just 'pool. As for "perceived rivals" yawn
But its also a case of 'its Suarez' for opposition fans. If it was clearly deliberate I'd say so, what have I got to gain from saying anything else? Its a ****ing footy forum & it won't change a damn thing If it had been any other Liverpool player then it would have been passed of as fortunate but because its Suarez the 'cheat' word is thrown left, right and centre. Personally, I think the commentators were bang out of order!
I think this whole incident Has told us one thing, something that we already knew THE MEDIA in this country, epecially the papers ARE SCUM OF THE EARTH,the levinson inquiry didnt do anywhere near enough, with these low lifes, they just make it up as they go along, anyone with half a brain can see what vermin they are Correct football fans are fickle, the print press are low life
^^^this^^^ When it happened the media were rubbing their hands together with joy that they could have another pop at Suarez and certain opposing fans to not mentioning any names but they know who they are the ones who virtually live on our board This will be talked about for a while
So this morning's papers are all printing a picture of Suarez kissing THE HAND after scoring the goal. What it actually is, to those who watch him every week, is him kissing the tattoo on his wrist, the same tattoo he kisses after EVERY SINGLE GOAL. FFS. Suarez, he does what he wants.
"Suarez is not a cheat". Unfortunately,he has gained something of a reputation, and all his actions are now scrutinised to the point of obsession. In my opinion, the goal should have been disallowed, since it was clearly handled. Suarez is a very talented player,it's a pity that it's difficult for most non-Liverpool fans to actually like him. He is an easy person to dislike. Sad for him really. "Brendan Rodgers is a decent guy". You'll get no argument from me there. However,I do see a change in him since his arrival at Liverpool. An element of disingenuosness seems to have become part of his persona. I don't see him as likeable as he was at Swansea. Probably goes with his new territory. "Liverpool are a fantastic football club". Well, this is a rather extravagant statement to make. Certainly, they have a rich history, but their best days are behind them. They now lag way behind the likes of the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea. Everton have a justifiable claim to be the premier club on Merseyside. Can they regain lost ground? Possibly, but it may be some time off. Defending the behaviour of the likes of Suarez makes it really hard, for me anyway,to retain the respect and admiration I once had for Liverpool F.C. "Fantastic",not any more.
VETCHETARIAN, we all agree the goal should have been disallowed, but players are taught to play to the whistle, it is the refs fault for giving the goal, not Suarez,so maybe the officials felt it wasn't deliberate, but because its Suarez that cant be a possibility can it! and i have heard the line he should have owned up, like someone said, do defenders own up and say it should be a penalty to the ref when they know they have hand balled it in the area? of course they frigging dont.
17 years without a trophy, in which time Liverpool have won 2 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 Community Shields, the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, and 2 UEFA Super Cups. On the other hand, they are 5 points ahead with just 17 games left to play. Let's call it a draw for now
Jenners04. I see where you are coming from, and your"because it's Suarez" comment sums it up. With regards owning up,why not? Just because others don't know how to behave shouldn't influence his, yours,or my behaviour. Let right be done. Therein lies the problem - others do it so it's O.K for me,well it's not O.K.,not in my book, anyway. I guess I simply don't like cheats, never have ,never will. There is precedent,by the way. German footballer Klose scored a goal, but he knew he had handled. He went to the referee, told him so,and the goal didn't stand. So you see,how easy it is to play the game with honesty and integrity. The more players who do that, the more others will follow. Hey,it may even become the norm, but I won't hold my breath.
Never mind,Zingy, just remember to get in a few bevvies and watch the Toffees tonight. You know it makes sense.
I don't. Law 12 specifically says that the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement, and the referee must take the movement of the ball and distance to the player into consideration. If you agree with the referee and most pundits that the handball was accidental, then the rules demand that you let the goal stand. I wouldn't have complained if the referee had disallowed the goal if he thought it was deliberate. But the last thing we need is referees not even knowing the rules, or deciding to ignore them because of the occasion, or because of the reputation of the player in question.
