What's that got to do with the price of carrots. In the 80s Manchester United were a 1 man team, and that was when Robson was fit.

Not really. Very few teams can be carried by a single player in modern football. Suarez can no more carry Liverpool than Rooney can England or United <ok>

Messi the best footballer on the planet cannot get Barcelona to beat Madrid or even Chelsea if the othes around him are not playing well: supporting the attack or defending well. Same with Ronaldo and Real.

If the players in the Liverpool team are mediocre , then one good player is not going to make a difference...<ok>

I disagree with that & there's load of examples of it.

Beckham for England vs Greece in the WC qualifier for example, he dragged that team into the finals

Gerrard at Liverpool is another one, I've lost count of how many times that man single handedly either won or turned around, Liverpool games, when he was in his pomp.

Maradona at Napoli, he virtually won them the league.

Not really. Ronaldo was very good and very instrumental in United winning the league titles in this period but he couldn't have done it if the players around him were not good enough. Rooney, Scholes, Ferdinand, Vidic, Giggs all contributed. Suarez is different. He is not in the same class as Ronaldo and the players around him are not very good <ok>

Ronaldo at times had to compensate for dross such as Carrick, Anderson and O Shea.

Last sentence or at least the 2nd part of it wasn't needed for your point and detracts from it. It's also an incorrect generalisation. Some of the players around him are inexperienced, some are good, some are mediocre. Please be precise if you aren't going to be viewed as just another WUM.

I agree with that statement entirely. Brendan wants the mediocre players out, Cole, Downing and Enrique and wants to ensure the younger players develop and gain experience. Our problem isn't really a lack of quality, its a lack of numbers.

That is the same thing as saying the squad lacks quality (not enough quality players). You have been left with too many "passengers" who draw a very high salary but now redundant to the system or simply were never good enough. <ok>

A total rebuild is in order. The problem is money. If you were City, that would be done in an instant. But you are not so it will mean selling. Suarez may bring you the money you need (Cole, downing, carroll won't bring you enough).<ok> You rely on young prospects but these players are not going to progress if there are not enough good senior players to support them. That was the fortune that United had over the years. Always had enough good players (Giggs, scholes, Neville, Ferdinand) to carry the youngsters <ok>

You spout some Turkish delight lad, 'a total rebuild is in order'?, so we should get rid of Reina, Skrtl, Agger, Enrique, Gerrard, Allen and Suarez.<laugh>

You're bringing comparisons between the Utd youth coming through as opposed to ours, Scholes Beckham Neville etc never appeared in the Utd 1st team until around Ferguson's 8th year in charge whereas because of our owners 'new' spending policy Rodgers has had to give our youth a chance, in other words Fergie had the luxury of having those years to develop a youth side with players good enough to come through the ranks.

That is why I think you are in big trouble. I agree that your youngsters do not have time to bed in before they are thrown in at the deep end. Your manager wont be given time like Ferguson. The players you quote are getting older: Reina has not been the same this season, your CBs while ok for your team are not top notch, Enrique is not playing well consistently enough, Gerrard is getting older...

I am afraid the picture is looking rather gloomy <ok>
