Put it this way, if Bony and Lambert are the 'big' signings we're fooked. We've just lost 30+ goals/season plus his assists and the creativity/tenacity that was unique about his game.
He could have had therapy for the biting which he obviously cannot control. Yet he chose to do nothing about it and bit Ivanovic and got suspended for 10 matches. If he were serious about his game and us as a club he would tried not to put us in such difficulty. I cannot see why we should pay tribute to him
I won't try and decipher the first part of that post. Honestly I don't think we can ever call him 'great' or a 'legend' as there are too many failings in his character. He'll always be notorious or infamous but can you ever see a Suarez statute outside Anfield? Nope, me neither.
World class player to be fair...I cant understand the appreciation thread though no doubt he did great things for you but I think he bit that bloke to engineer the move tbh he knew that LFC would be pushed Into getting rid when he took a chomp?
Fully agreed. Without us I doubt he would have became the worlds 3rd best player. At Ajax he was brilliant but his personality required a huge gamble. We were one of the only ones willing to give him the chance to play at the top level. At any other club he'd be kicked out for the first offence. We gave him support and stood by him. So we shouldn't whitewash his time here. Take the good with the bad. Part of his legacy is how we feel about him.
No chance. Torres behaved far worse and he spat on the club just to sit on a Chelsea bench. Suarez's desire to play in Spain was never hidden and we would have sold him next season no matter what. The Torres move had no reason to happen but greed.
Brendan rodgers has outdone himself this time. Inspured by the film face off he has had luis suarez gruesome mug transferred to the skull of snother of our players. The player in questions face has been grafted onti luis. The net result is that Barca have not bought the player they intended to and I fully expect aspas to be a revelation this season
I'm genuinely very sad to see him go. Absolute genius footballer, and they really don't come our way that often. Deeply flawed, no doubt, but those making him out to be some sort of monster need to get things in perspective. imo. Reluctantly I think it's time for him to go, because I'm convinced he'll do something stupid again and incur a ban which could, effectively, end his career. Except that now he's at Barca he'll probably get away with it.
Not just that though! For me Suarez was our Cantona; a flawed genius no doubt, but one that lifted those around him to new heights. Not Rodgers fault that he is gone, but I do worry what we will get to replace him with?
You don't replace Suarez. 99.9% of football teams don't have a Suarez. Team sheets don't start off with a Suarez-shaped hole and then you have to think how the **** you're going to fill it. If you do have a Suarez, you build the team around him and accommodate his qualities as much as possible. Otherwise, it's business as usual for a football manager. The real question is, how are we going to get the most of Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho while keeping a balanced team.
i for just one mod voice have thought to leave this thread open as it serves a purpose of some small positivity and story closure. especially after the bbc choose to ignore and positivity and go forthe negative only as per.
Agreed, time for Sturridge to show that he's ready to be the man and for players like Sterling and Coutinho to perform at a consistently high level (not that they haven't already, just moreso, Coutinho needs to find his shooting boots occasionally now for example).
Vitally flawed, but he's definitely the most talented player I've seen in a red shirt in my life time. For me the good outweighed the bad he done with us, we got the correct price, he's going abroad, so I haven't got too many qualms with him. He got his dream, he never sugar coated the fact he wanted a move to Barca or Real the moment he came in, so fair play. For me his greatest match has to be the 5-1 v Norwich, he had every good one of his good attributes on display that night, easily one of the greatest individual performances in the PL for some time.
This time next year we'll all be saying "remember when we wondered how we would replace Suarez... and then Aspas suddenly improved- and now we're all saying Suarez who?"
Because he done brilliant things for us and all the focus has been on the negatives lately. Suarez deserves a real tribute with out people turning it sour.
Well if you want to be champions, you need to have the best squad, or you need to have the best player in the league and just hope his effect is enough to pull of the impossible. We almost managed it last season, but as I said earlier, Suarez didn't just do the business himself or create gaps, score goals, assist, but he lifted the players around him to levels possibly above their level, that's what the top, top players do. We either need to bring in another world class player, or improve the squad to match Chelsea, City etc... so if we can't replace Suarez (and I agree we can't) then we need better players than Lallana and Lambert.
