I thought Shelvey did well on Sun when he came on and while im sad to see Lucas out we do have some good replacements for him in Shelvey and Sahin.
Strange how he jumped the pecking order in front of Hendo, who was just recently at Euros with England.
Correct! Lucas is a loss but, unlike last year, we have Allen, an improving (I too thought he played really well against City) Shelvey, Sahin and Hendo, so his loss shouldn't have the same impact it had last year!
Yeah I like Henderson but I think Shelvey is a better footballer and more suited to Brendans passing style. I don't really see Henderson featuring that much this season other than Europa league or Carling cup, it will be hard for him to get ahead of Sahin, Allen, Lucas, or Shelvey.
Hmmm... it is looking more and more like £70m spent for one failure of a season. Unbelievable when you think about it, doesn't matter that most of it isn't net spend. That sort of money should be invested for a sustainable future, players who can contribute for years to come or at least be sold at a profit.
The fact is we spent that money, Torres money or not it was spent on that. Newcastle showed that with the right scouting what you could do with 35 mil, christ imagine what we could have done with 70! Ah well, in the past now and hopefully BR's buys are good, he gets trusted with the budget and if we get CL that would obviously help.
I know its pretty shocking when you look at it that way but im not giving up on Henderson or anything I just think he will have to bide his time a bit. We may have payed over the odds for Henderson but we got Shelvey for next to nothing so you win some you lose some I suppose.
Not giving up on him as he has the drive, he does have the technique but he is having problem with confidence, how to take what he does in training over to the games, and most importantly, just what is his best position?
I think the same can be said for Carroll too... we paid way too much for him but I think given time he could prove himself very useful to us. I don't know what wages these guys are on... if they prevent us bringing in someone else that could raise our game they don't belong... but if their wages arnt too high they're worth keeping around and devolping.
Henderson has more of a future than the likes of Adam and Spearing, there is a reason for this, henderson has more room for improvement. Adam and Spearing are limited footballers, Henderson is rough around the edges, but is a talented kid. His short passing range is superb, and he's got bucket loads of energy.
Don't know how true this is (reported by Yahoo, retweeted by various e.g EOTK etc but apparently Lucas' wife sent that copper down to ask how bad his injury was when he came off in the game. I wondered because I saw him looking all flustered & waving the Peeler away. How much sh*t did he take from the rest of the team over that one lol!
