Sorry guys but it will be locked and closed for replies after the 10,000 post hits the thread. I presume the BBC will lock it because it brings down the server and slows the site down.

<ok>

As long as they don't remove the page altogether, locked at 10,000 makes a pretty substantial statement.

PMC, how do you know this? I'm intrigued...

My uncle(who works in IT Management) was telling me on Monday that the BBC will surely have to close the thread due to traffic reasons at around 10,000 posts. He said the max would be around 15,000 before it starts to slow the site down, but he said he would be "very surprised" if they left it go that long for may reason:

- People may spam

- More work for the mods to premoderate comments.

- Removing comments harder as many many more

- A safety margin for the traffic level.

Interesting stuff Cameron. Thanks for this insight (and prediction). It makes sense.
